Sales for pizza deliveries have increased through March now that many more people are staying home, with some pizza places like Papa John's seeing more than a 5 percent bump.

This has helped to fuel a hiring frenzy for pizza chains like Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, and Domino's. They are looking to reportedly hire tens of thousands, more than 50k new employees.

For some people who have taken part in surveys that asked if their pizza consumption had increased over the last several weeks, at least 25 percent of households who responded said that they were ordering more pizza delivery.

With millions of people who might now be looking for some temporary work, they might want to look into the pizza department.

"For anyone looking for immediate ways to earn an income, we're making it quick and simple to apply, interview, and be hired at Papa John's," - M. Boakye, Papa John's chief people and diversity officer.

Pizza is a high value and low cost food. You are able to feed more people with less, and that is something that many families need right now. An affordable dinner option.

Aside from a hiring spree that they need to go on now in order to meet demand, other news reports confirm that many households have been eating a lot more pizza and chocolate during the current lockdown.

They aren't just ordering pizza for delivery, they are also grabbing it from the freezer section and cooking it at home, along with other comfort food while finding themselves stuck at home for right now.

Already, the National Restaurant Association has estimated that roughly 3 percent of restaurants have already had to be closed permanently.

That could grow, with another 11 percent or more closing for good within the next month. But pizza has been doing well, so well that it might be the hottest pandemic purchase right now other than things like toilet paper, face masks, and hand sanitizer.
