Crypto is still relative new technology, and expecting things to go smoothly all the time is usually the source of disappointment. HIVE blockchain, on the other hand, is supposed to be more practical and more reliable than others. The reliability, however, has been put into question because of today's events in France.

Many of HIVE users have experienced certain issues with certain websites and dApps today, which culminated in some users' Leofinance wallets displaying zero values or no data at all. Later it was followed by announcement of Blockstrades going down and websites like hive.blog and hiveblocks.com being inaccessible.

The explanation for this phenomena was found in the news about fire that erupted in Strasbourg last night and destroyed servers belonging to OVH, Europe's largest hosting provider. Many of HIVE blockchain websites and their nodes were apparently hosted by OVH and its catastrophic server loss apparently affected them.

As I write this, the crisis seems to be more or less over, and HIVE dApps are returning to normalcy. It remanins to be seen whether this quick fix to potentially annoying situation is a result of OVH employing their disaster preparedness program or HIVE being decentralised enough. Let's hope that the answer is the latter.
