Greetings dear friends of Project Hope.

As we know, vehicular transportation on streets and highways contributes with a significant percentage in the production of greenhouse gases, especially in big cities. That is why the question arises, could a transportation company fight against this and at the same time have a lucrative business? I have come across an interesting business model applied by the company Cabify, which recently announced that it would reinforce its environmental commitment by applying blockchain technology to its emissions offsetting program.

To put us in context, Cabify is a car rental company with driver that offers a technology platform that connects users with the transport that best suits their needs, through a mobile app, something comparable to Uber, and it operates in Spain, some Latin American countries and Portugal.

What caught my attention of this company is its corporate social responsibility, the company is committed to sustainability, and following this line, is a pioneer among those offering mobility services to offset 100% of carbon emissions from its operations. To this end, it has made important alliances with carbon-neutral service providers and supports projects to combat deforestation and environmental protection, and at the same time is making progress in the electrification of its fleet, in addition to applying saving and recycling policies; in this way, it has been carbon neutral for three consecutive years in Spain and Latin America.

And now, to reinforce its environmental commitment, the company will make use of Blockchain technology to streamline and simplify its operations with total transparency. To achieve this, this company established an alliance with ClimateTrade, another pioneer in developing a Blockchain Marketplace for carbon footprint offsetting.

Through an application developed by ClimateTrade, the company will be able to trace the carbon footprint of each trip requested by its private users and corporate clients, informing them in real time the amount of emissions produced by the trip, and which the company commits to offset for them, thus promoting greater awareness in the population by encouraging the use of carbon neutral services. And the Blockchain gives the company several advantages, it adds transparency in the operation, allowing them to transparently accredit the carbon neutrality of the company and also allows them to diversify investment in environmental projects from ClimateTrade's catalog.

Undoubtedly it is a business plan that adds environmental awareness and intelligence, the company is committed to the decarbonization of urban transportation by offering efficient and sustainable alternatives, generating greater environmental impact on its customers and thus promoting the acquisition of carbon neutral services, of which Cabify is a pioneer and has the leadership. Something that shows that it is possible to have an environmentally responsible business.
