Taking up a leadership role sure comes along with so many responsibilities attached to it, either as a business owner or a group of persons, and there are life governing principles that must be followed. Leadership sometimes takes you off the path of the things you will normally like to do and then it fixes you on the path of doing what is right (but that is if you want to become a good leader).

We often read lots of books about leadership even before we take on the role, but leadership goes beyond having the knowledge on the things that should be done it goes deep into practising those things you know, knowing sound principles is a good thing but turning them into action is even better.

Reasons why a leader should follow sound ethics.

It provides respect amongst team members. It provides some sort of peace even to the leader himself.

It strengthens the team and provides a better option for growth and improvement. The team members also grow well and become better with what they do.

If sound ethics are so important, why do some leaders ignore it?

As peaceful as following sound ethics may sound, there are certain hindrances that could be associated with it, and there are reasons why we do not have people following them constantly.

In order to follow sound ethics, the habit of self-interest must be minimized and that is not a very common trait we find this days, times ae hard and before most people think about anyone else they put their own interest first which might be quite understandable but a leadership position requires that sometimes the leader may have to put aside his own personal interest and gain and then focus on what will be profitable to team members.

A good leader has to pay the sacrifice of effort, dedication and ability to carry team members along and since the power of making decisions lie solely on the shoulders of a leader, then it is also mandatory to understand the principles associated with decision making, if a good decision is to be made these questions must be asked:

Questions that needs to be answered before a sound decision is made.

Will the decision I am about to make affect the growth of the project in a positive or negative manner?

Is this decision going to cause any form of emotional pain to anyone? Will this decision reduce my reputation in any way?

Can this decision restrict growth amongst my team members?
