This post discusses Community in the context of leofinance following the first few chapters of the Whitebook, which is an interesting read.

"let's have some fun"

It's been a wild ride so far but we are only getting started.

Layer 0

Layer 0 is used in the Leo Whitebook to describe the community and the social app.

Community is certainly foundational to Web 3 and in this post I discuss it in the context of Leo and provide some ideas where it could be fleshed out.

The community forms and grows Web 3 projects through a network effect where momentum builds, more people onboard and contribute growing the Ecosystem.
More apps are created, more content is produced, more connections are made.

Web 3 becomes sticky for the community because people don't just invest their time, but they also get “shares” in Web 3, not real shares of course.

A Centralised Entity like the incumbents of Web 2 will no longer be able to just profit off their users value. The users can partake in that profit, the value they generate themselves.
Where does community live on Leofinance?

Ironically while a lot of Open Blockchain Communities are working on open platforms where all are welcome, much of the community may be hidden, or not as visible as you might first think. The following diagram shows some of the nuances for Hive and Leofinance.

There is an on chain and less visible off chain world.

Tip of the Iceberg

While many casual observers might just see the Posts, Comments and juicy upvotes left by people on chain there is a whole subworld of Discord Chats, Project Initiatives, In Person meetups and of course technology working behind the scenes.
“Build it and they will come”   This was the prevailing mantra when I spent some time in the Gulf Region, and it seems to have worked out for them pretty well. In that example, fueled by Oil Revenue, the best example is the City of Dubai where there is no superlative left to use.
I agree with the Leo whitebook that the community is a fundamental building block and as part of the whitebook it would be good to include an approach for nurturing these communities especially as most of it at the moment is very decentralised and hard to see, hiding in plain sight, but flying under the radar.

Some things that could be considered

  • Community Roles
  • Feedback and Rewards
  • External Communication
  • Resources     The objective of expanding on community is to provide a framework where communities can grow exponentially.
