Let's get right into it. Before I ever heard of Steemit, I had what I called a "test blog" on Blogger. I've always had an interest in technology and would write about software, game reviews and the latest gadgets.

It was a place where I could learn on the job without anybody noticing my mistakes, even though the page was live. One day, I did a review of the latest version of Photoshop and it got some traction. There wasn't really much intent of growth and I'd had a couple of AdSense ads, that I'm sure very few people saw, let alone clicked on.

The time before crypto

After awhile, I saw that a "blogger" from South Asia, was copying my posts and publishing them on his own site, after stripping my byline out. Trying to get the hosting company to remove his was a post by post affair. It was time-consuming and I had to fill out a form for every post that he had stolen.

That caused me to leave the site and stop posting so he would have nothing to steal. A year or so later I saw the very first mention of Steemit on a Facebook message. Being 2016, I didn't believe that anyone could be paid for creating content outside of Google AdSense. This crucial delay and refusal to believe what my friend was telling me, cost me the chance to be an early builder on the blockchain.

Everthing starts to click

The following year, 2017 I saw the site mentioned in an article online. This made it real enough for me to check it out and ensure it wasn't a scam. After a month or so lurking and watching video tutorials, I joined Steemit in July, 2017.

Since then, there has been a number of ups and downs, including the switch to Hive. But if I could point to the core reasons I'm still here after four years, it would be the following:

A) As an early believer in cryptocurrency, who got my first FIVE free Bitcoin from a faucet on 2010, I was an advocate in crypto and the blockchain. The fact that six years later someone would combine earning crypto and blogging, was a dream come true for me. And today we see that promise live on Hive, LeoFinance and an ever-growing number of tribes. It reignited my passion for blogging and has made me a better content creator. Instead of creating for Google, I'm blogging for my audience and myself.

B) 2016 was also the year I saw the first shadow banning on Twitter. To them, I had the gall to contrast my chosen candidate, with the one favored by Twitter management and saw my growing follower base come to a halt, due to what the founder related as "increasing the velocity" of tweets falling down the timeline. They don't delete them, they just cause them to zip down your followers timelines so quickly, that they are hardly ever seen. This made me realize that I had to have another home where my content could live and an alternative venue for promotion.

**C)**The last point would be, the importance of having a place where I don't have to convince "the normal's" about the utility of the blockchain and the future of cryptocurrency. It's refreshing to have a cozy little home here where everyone just "gets it" and are on the cutting edge of a movement that will change how we do just about everything. This is where the future lives and I'm glad I made it my home.

Thank You So Much!
