Like a village full of angry Luddites, this area has resisted the advances brought upon by the blockchain, turning us into a barren, crypto-desert. Since at least 2010, I've been trying to spread the word about the benefits of the distributed ledger, but I may as well have been shouting into the wind. That is until I spied something whilst on a jaunt yesterday.

Here, I'm known as "That Crypto Guy" among the masses of Muggles who treat cryptocurrency as if it's radioactive. You’d think they’d discovered the wheel after seeing the reaction from the locals. There had never been anywhere nearby to to make a Crypto transaction, which is why I was so surprised at what I encountered along the way.

At one of our busiest supermarkets, sat a brand-spanking-new Bitcoin ATM. Not only was it in the store, it wasn't located in some far off dusty corner, instead being planted right at the exit so you had to see it on your way in or out. Frankly, I was shocked, while snapping a few pictures (for some reason, the ones I took and uploaded with my phone, would not show up on LeoFinance), as management had laughed off my suggestions a couple years ago to install one.

I don't know how long the manager had to be strapped down and forced-fed crack cocaine in order to get him to sign off, but I'm glad he made the choice. Maybe they tied him up and had some unwashed, pole-sitting, chunky girl to straddle him until he squealed like a pig in mud, and signed on the dotted line. Whatever works. We've finally joined the 21st century.

The crypto ATM is from a company called CoinCloud, and man lemme tell ya, they must have hired a Feng Shui Master to position that puppy, as it couldn't have been placed in a better spot. Everybody sees it. There's an iPhone App Store app, and for some reason, a Google Play app as well. :)

I didn't hang around long enough to see the unit in action, as I was still shell-shocked it was there at all. Just a few weeks ago, we were wondering how far afield we'd have to go to find a Bitcoin/crypto ATM. Now, we have to wonder no more. Fingers crossed that they will actually begin to use it. However, I'm happy to see that we've taken the first baby steps to joining the crypto revolution.
