Hello everyone...

Something that is part of many cultures worldwide is the proverbs that are popular phrases traditionally repeated invariably, which expresses a moral thought, advice, or teaching. Some years ago when I was in high school and came home late, my mother told me a proverb like: "when the river sounds are because it brings stones". Meaning that bad habits bring bad habits that one could learn from hanging out with bad people.

Now, in the case of Meta (formerly Facebook), it could be defined with the saying "Old parrot does not learn to speak", since this saying is related to age, it is generally said by older people when they must learn to perform a new task. It is assumed that if he did not learn it when he was young, he will not learn it when he is old. In the case of Meta, since its beginnings as Facebook, it has always stated that its business is to collect user data and sell it to the highest bidder for targeted advertising. And with the company's shift to virtual reality, this idea of profiting from user data will continue with much more strength, even if they say that the metaverse is a free place.

According to recent reviews by the British newspaper The Financial Times, Meta was found to have patented a wide range of new devices that would allow it to track the facial expressions, eye movements and body postures of users who connect to the Metaverse.

For example, Meta patented a wearable magnetic sensor system that is placed around the torso to track body posture. In addition, a virtual reality (VR) headband capable of tracking a person's movements, as well as audio transducers to pick up sounds from the environment. Also goggles with an electronic display that provides separate images capable of capturing the movement of the user's eyes when in the metaverse.

$85 billion per year

Did you know that this is the amount of money that Meta generates annually by selling user data to large companies, in today's social networks is a little different because they only sell the data that we offer voluntarily as likes, date of birth, places we visit, etc... Now imagine that Meta has access to everything about you, such as pupil movements, body poses, and wrinkled noses, the way you walk, and when the metaverse goes live and millions of people are there spending time, Meta will be harvesting all the user data.

The metaverse will be the most profitable business in human history, and that is why a race is being created at full speed by companies like Apple, Microsoft, Disney, among others since everyone wants to participate in this and make their profit.

So even if Facebook changes its name and ventures into other technologies, it will always have the same background of its business idea which is the sale of data, that was the reason why Facebook is now a company that generates billions a year. That's why decentralized metaverses will have an important role, because just as decentralized social networks like Hive do not profit with the data of their users, decentralized metaverses where the user is in control of their data or rather are not even necessary to register, can be a great solution to prevent Meta or other greedy companies to profit with you.
