Most of you already know that due to war and all this chaos we have been warned that the electricity bills that will arrive from now on will be extremely tough. EU and our Prime Minister had warned that it will be a tough winter with a rise in electricity bills around 5-10x times.

First, of all, i highly doubt that all these guys will have a tough time. Nothing will change for them. It will be us, the everyday people that will have to face all the difficulties again. So the Prime minister had also announced that the government will try to cover most of these costs in order to help all of us.

Today i just received the electricity bill for the previous month and was quite surprised with the amount. It's not that i wasn't expecting it but i may have had hope that it was all a bad dream that will never come true. So i opened the envelope containing the bill and the amount was 200 EUROS.

Now many of you of are from the USA or other countries and 200 euros depending on where you live may sound either low or huge. Let me explain to you and tell you why it's a huge amount of money for an electricity bill.

In Greece, the minimum wage is 614 euros per month. Many and i repeat many people in Greece are getting paid minimum wage and in general, people earn between 614-1000 euros in most cases. So let's do a breakdown in terms of numbers and see if the electricity bill is a low amount or not.

So for a small apartment in Greece with 1 bedroom depending on the area, you may pay from 300 euros to 600 euros per month. Now let's add the 200 euros and we have 500-900 euros expenses without including the cost for food or water for example.

So as you can see and understand if someone earns the minimum wage and rents a house which many people do, you have 100 euros left in best case, to pay for water, food and heat for the winter. Now in the best case if you earn 1000 and your minimum expenses for rent and electricity are around 400-500 euros then you are ok but i highly doubt that's the case.

The only solution i see is to either live with your family or with your girlfriend or with a friend or something. That's way you can all cut the costs until everything comes back to normal, if everything comes back to normal. Also, note that in Greece the inflation is 12% which makes everything harder.

A fun fact i want to share with you is that in the bill i read that due to the government we are off 165 euros. In other words, we would have to pay 365 euros per month. Honestly, i strongly believe that many people will have a tough time managing this situation. We are already on a tight budget as well and i have one trip planned for vacation in 2 weeks and honestly i have second thoughts due to this madness in prices.

All in all i strongly believe that this winter will be a true hell and many people will have a hard time. I also believe that many people will leave the houses that rent and go live back with their parents and others will either lose their property or move to a smaller home. It's quite sad that we are on 2022 and instead of things to go smoothly for everyone, it keeps getting harder and harder each day.
