In Splinterlands renting is mostly automated. You just have to list your land and someone will automatically pick it up for the duration they want and rent will be credited to your account. A similar thing is going to be implemented on all platforms.

All ethereum platforms are going towards gasless model or adopting L2 like Polygon. But you are right, Ethereum's fees need to go down. 😂
