The holy grail for Magic collectors is for sale on eBay at the moment.

The current bid is 658100$ with almost 9 days left.

It was up to over 1 million already but bids were taken back.

As far as I know the last one in this condition sold for around 200k$ last year.

Even without new bids ( which I think is highly unlikely ) the price would 3x in a very short amount of time.

Does this mean people have more money? Well we all survived 2020 and know that people got free money at least and Pokemon, YuGiOh, MtG and even a new game called Flash and Blood could see a lot of interest and money coming into the market creating new heights.

The fascination for cardboard and the willingness to spend big bucks on it is there. Last year Pokemon was all the rage with big Youtube names falling into the mania buying what they could get their hands on for insane prices.

Also YuGiOh was getting attention as people were cracking boxes on stream to chase some cards.

There have been sold trading cards for multiple million in the world of baseball cards but as far as I know never in the game area of trading cards.

This is potentially huge for Magic as it would establish the game as the big dog between those 3 or it could mean high grade Charzards are undervalued as Pokemon is the biggest franchise we have.

But what it means for all of those 3 games is that you can trust your investment in cardboard and age does not mean the hype is over and no one is willing to pay, no age means you might sell the top end collectiables for 1 million and probable multiple millions in the coming years.

Let us assume the Lotus will sell for 1 million.

The market can`t get flooded by high graded copies because there are only 7.

Low graded or ungraded copies might hit the market but those are also very limited.

I am curious to see if those will be eaten up by new collectors / investors but I doubt they would impact the market value in a negative way as people might want to sell into the new high but we had a short down tick in prices and cards got picked up by stronger hands already.

I am actually very excited about that sell as I think it is a big deal for MtG and the whole cardboard community as people smile at you like you are a confused little child if you tell them you invest into Magic but look at you impressed if you tell them you invest into wine or fine art.

Climbing prices and hype from youtubers will change this and it will become a more and more legit investment in my opinion which will even further increase the market value.

Good times ahead....probably

What do you think? Is it as much of a big deal as I think? Do you feel saver with your cardboard if we would crack the million dollar mark?
