Threads is still making waves each day as the next big thing on Hive. For me, it is. A lot of positives could be easily seen since the launching of Threads and the new alpha UI. I can say that threads is:

  • Engaging: It has taken personal interactions to a whole new level on hive. I doubt if we could have achieved the same height of person-to-person connections through our comments on blog posts.

  • Fun: You just play around through threads. Learn, ask questions and meet new people. I have learnt about places, people and their culture through personal interactions.

  • Rewarding: I have been fortunate enough to get a few votes on my threads. Of course, the gosh token earned through promoting posts and engagement has added a new reward opportunity that was not there before.

Of the above benefits we have derived from threads, a lot more could be achieved. So here, I will be sharing with you important tips on..

..how to utilize threads to build a large following

I wish to ask a direct question here - How many followers do you have on hive? Well depending on when you started and your level of engagement, the number will vary. But then, the size of your audience - your followers - matter. Remember that hive is still a social media platform and how many people are following you will give a visitor to your page an idea of your influence or value on the platform. Sometimes, seasoned bloggers use your followers count to determine if they will even interact with your content in the first place.

The aim of this presentation is not to show the value of a large follower base, that could be a topic for another day. But then, every social media or content sharing platform place a very high value of the number of users following you.

So you can utilize threads to boost attract new followers and increase your connections. Here are 4 tips that could prove useful:

  • Tip 1 - Publish Threads regularly: Posting threads regularly is a cool way to invite new users to connect with you. Consistency and quality of interaction are very crucial here. Since it does not take much to write a thread (240 characters maximum), then it wont take more than 5 minutes to publish a thread each day. So no matter how much a tight schedule you run, you could put out 5 minutes to make a thread and wait to interact with users that may comment on your thread.

It is important not to miss a day without posting a thread. And it is equally important to follow up on your threads. I find it not great if I replied a thread and had to wait hours before I get a comment from the author. So that means I try to reply those that commented on my threads as fast as I see them. That way, I could hold a quick conversation in that short time the user expressed interest in my content.

  • Tip 2 - Interact with other threads: Engagement is really as important as writing your own threads. If everyone published their threads and did not check out what others have written, engagement and personal interactions would be defeated. So try to find interest in what others have written and drop a very meaningful comment.

Some of my friends complained that they do not understand any of the posts they see when they visit threads. One said its all about crypto and bitcoin which they are not interested in. So, If you finding it difficult to locate threads that appeal to your interest or passion, why not browse the threads page by tags. That way, you can narrow or filter it down to what you want. So to see all the tags used on threads, See it below:

If I wish to see all the threads that used the tag #foodie, here is the link:

Replace foodie with any other tags such as life, hive, fitness, food, etc and you will be able to find threads of interest.

  • Tip 3 - Follow users that connected with you: I have made a matter of priority to follow any user that connected with me on threads on a personal level. Its not just about dropping 1 comment on my threads. I mean those that were patient enough to carry out conversation over a reasonable time. These ones have demonstrated that we can be friends by creating the time to interact. So I check their page and follow them. You too can decide how to follow people you met on threads.

Threads give us the opportunity to meet a lot of new people, possibly with diverse passion. So I try to find what others like appealing especially if they have shown similar interest in my threads. Its important to open our hearts wide and try to enlarge our passion. So try to follow people as you continue to interact. Naturally, people that you reached out to try to accept the new connection. If you follow new users that showed interest in your threads, over time you become closer friends and they will likely want to follow you.

  • Tip 4 - Reach out to new connections again and again: It shouldn't end at first sight or meeting. Try to connect with that user again after the first time. I personally try to check on them both on their blog page and their threads page. When I do, I try to comment on their latest threads and like, say hi again. On their posts, I try to read and drop a meaningful comment on their latest posts. This way, we can continue the connection from the last time out.

So I recommend that you check not forget the usernames of your thread new friends. That way, you can easily try to check on them again. If it would do you good, you could have a jotter or note where you will put down the usernames of those you want to check later.

So here is how to check another users threads page:

Replace my username with your own, or anybody you want to check their threads page. This will make it easy to see their recent threads.

You can check any user's blog page by replacing my username below with theirs

When you reach out to people that connected with you again and again, they will see you want to be a friend. Most will respond positively, eventually following you too.

Finally

These are personal recommendations that can be useful to increase ones followers on Hive. We need to consciously build our followers count and Threads could be a really useful tool to achieve that.
