Welcome to our weekly column on the top governance discussions in ShapeShift DAO!
We will talk today about two idealizations of proposals to integrate with DeFi protocols and an interesting bounty promoted by Erik Voorhees to design a page for FOX on the ShapeShift V2 platform.
Discussions for ShapeShift DAO to partner with Porter Finance
This week, a proposal was submitted on the ShapeShift Forum for DAO to partner with Porter Finance. The protocol, not yet published, is intended to act as a tool to lend to DAOs at pre-set interest rates, collateralized by their governance tokens. ShapeShift currently has a pool at Rari Capital and uses it to lend tokens, providing FOX as collateral for the loans.
The main advantage of this tool for DAOs is the ability to gain stablecoins or exposure to other assets without the need to divest from FOX, which would affect its market value. Depending on the options, Porter provides tools for DAOs to issue bonds of their governance tokens. Bonds are discounted versions of tokens that can be sold on a predetermined date at the original price. The difference between the purchase price and the sale price will be the motivation of the investors to acquire them. Therefore, the tokens will be held in escrow until the bonus expiration date.
In exchange, they will receive stablecoins or other tokens as payment and can use them for any purpose they wish. The sale value of the bonds is what will set the DAO loan interest rate.
There are advantages to prefixing the interest paid on loans guaranteed with FOX. At Rari Capital, the sudden withdrawal of lenders can quickly increase the annualized cost of capital borrowed in the loan protocol. At Porter Finance, that risk would be minimized. Therefore, we will follow this proposal and the discussions that arise from it.
Idealization of an alliance proposal with Water
Willy Ogorzally brought an idea on governance in ShapeShift DAO to open a new pool with a DeFi protocol called Water. The intention of it is solely to contribute to the liquidity in the trading of DAO governance tokens. With the success of the FOX/HNY pool on Honeyswap, many other projects began looking for the protocol to develop similar pools. The efficiency provided has brought benefits to DAOs - greater liquidity to trade - and to Honeyswap - fees collected in token trades -.
Initially, the intention is to create a pool of FOX and the token issued by Water. This will only have this utility and its emission will be carried out as long as the DAOs sign an alliance with the protocol. With this strategy, Water will have its token backed by a basket of different DAOs, becoming an index that tracks the volatility of the tokens. In return, ShapeShift DAO and other protocols were able to have greater liquidity for trading, providing more efficient markets for DeFi users.
To start the partnership with Water, ShapeShift will need to use $100,000 in FOX from its treasury to provide liquidity, along with $100,000 in Water tokens. The $200,000 dollars will be deposited in a pool and may be withdrawn, but with a 15% penalty on the amount - $15,000 dollars -. Therefore, the association aims to focus on the long term and keep the pool* implemented, providing liquidity for FOX trading on the Gnosis Chain.
Projects like Agave, 1hive, Giveth and BrightID have shown interest in the project. With the adherence to these and other protocols, the conditions for the purchase and sale of FOX will improve even more.
Proposal to create a dedicated FOX page in the ShapeShift DAO dapp
Erik Voorhees bounted the idea of creating a better experience for FOX owners on the DAO forum. According to him, the ShapeShift app does not differentiate its governance token from other tokens and doing so could attract more users to take an interest in FOX.
Knowing the different uses of the token, many could acquire it, contribute liquidity in partner protocols or actively participate in it. in governance votes. For this, it is necessary to improve the UX - User Experience - in the ShapeShift DAO platform.
With that, he opened a bounty of 20,000 FOX for those interested in contributing to the creation of a new page aimed at introducing FOX to the user. It must contain market information about the token, with graphic data on price variation, market capitalization, tokens in DAO custody, among other data. Along with these, educational content will be included, teaching the ways to trade ShapeShift DAO tokens and guiding you in learning about opportunities in partner projects.
The ease of learning more about FOX directly on the ShapeShift DAO V2 platform will bring more volume to trading the token and make more people curious about the different uses of the token. The creation is beneficial for DAO, its collaborators and even its partners, since they will be displayed on the page to be designed.
The bounty is stated to be completed by the end of April 2022. DAO contributors have expressed interest in participating and helping build the FOX page for ShapeShift.
