🏴☠️ Osmosis suffers exploit, but presents solutions
After upgrading its protocol, the decentralized exchange, Osmosis, suffered exploitation by a small group of wallets, resulting in the loss of approximately $5 million for the platform. The ninth version of the software released in the last week was the target of the attack.*
The security flaw found by the attackers was related to the incorrect calculation of the amount of LP tokens from liquidity providers. When they became aware of the vulnerability, the developers and project team quickly made an announcement via Twitter to notify platform users that they were working to resolve the situation.
The broker has assured users that all funds will be recovered and refunded, and corresponding transactions will be reversed. The update to fix the bug is already being tested and will be released soon with all fixes implemented.
The attackers are gradually returning the funds to the Osmosis Foundation, to avoid legal problems with the organization. If the capital returned is not enough to cover the losses, Osmosis will allocate part of its cash to cover the damages of the attack.
Later having its chain paused on June 8, new blocks began to be produced and validated as of June 12, returning the network to operating with normal.
