It is very sad to think of all the victims that the pandemic is leaving worldwide, to this date there are already more than 18 million people who have been infected with the virus according to official data and more than 600 thousand deaths worldwide.

Actually the number of people who have been infected represent alarming figures that we do not know where the count is going to stop, especially when the countries that seemed to have controlled the outbreaks, find new outbreaks of the virus.

Collateral damage

If the numbers that the pandemic is leaving are alarming, there are other numbers and predictions to which we must be vigilant, they are the sequels that the pandemic is leaving in other areas of health, the economy, among others.

Collateral damage is a euphemism used to refer to deaths, injuries and unintentional damages that occur as a result of a military operation.

According to some experts, the total attention received by the pandemic may result in the outbreak of some diseases that already seemed controlled in the world, such as Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria, all this because the manufacturing and test laboratories are all prioritizing the coronavirus, thus neglecting other pathologies.

Hungry.

According to the UN, hunger can kill 10,000 children a month as a result of the effect of the pandemic on the economy and the restrictions imposed by governments.

If these predictions materialize, we are facing a true catastrophe and the deaths caused by the virus itself will be nothing compared to those that I could leave after the pandemic.

Psychiatric disorder.

A study of more than 400 patients recovered from Covid-19 revealed that more than half suffered from psychiatric disorders such as: anxiety, insomnia, depression and post-traumatic stress.

The tests carried out through interviews with the survivors of the coronavirus showed that 42% of the cases presented anxiety, 40% insomnia, 31% depression and 20% obsessive compulsive symptoms.

Conclusions.

If we analyze well the consequences that this pandemic will leave, we will surely realize that what we are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg, that the pandemic can have devastating effects in multiple areas, not only related to the infection itself, but also to the "side effects" in other areas starting with the economy.

I think the key question we should answer is: Is there any way to avoid or minimize collateral damage?

If your answer is yes, we should take actions that help minimize the suffering caused by this pandemic, unite community, governments, NGOs and all the living forces of a nation, hunger does not wait or discriminate, hunger kills.

Let us try to work for the survivors who are subjected to isolation, discriminated against and rejected for a long time due to their diagnosis. Once they return, let us try to highlight their victory and do not make them feel rejection.
