Brave Browser and KYC
Greetings Steemians,
Last night I was looking into Brave browser. I love the idea of integrating crypto into the browsing experience. Brave browser utilizes a model of "attention" based rewards. Specifically, BAT (Basic Attention Tokens.)
Super cool!
Unfortunately, you will need to give up your privacy if you would like to withdraw your tokens currently. As per regulatory compliance, you must provide your information to the only withdraw service currently available for Brave, https://uphold.com/.
I happen to live in New York, so I can only use Brave browser while having any rewards I earn completely locked. They are working on the regulatory compliance currently, but regulatory compliance, coupled with KYC goes well against the intended purpose of Brave.
Furthermore, these regulatory compliance's go against what crypto stands for. I don't agree with it, but complacency has led us to this point. I am waiting for KYC to hit Steem. I'm sure it will given the current direction of crypto.
I'll not be using Brave browser due to these issues, but maybe in the future I will if something changes. I'm more prone to think the regulations are apt to get stricter, rather than looser.
Do you agree with this? Should the people continue to allow such blatant control by big brother?
Thank you for stopping by
Much love, @futuremind
