Today was a big update day for Splinterlands. I was actually postponing my post wanting to write about it. But since I've gone through most of them when they were announced (without the ECR formula change presented later on), I decided to write a follow-up post after a while.

But, since I started this way... A few words about the ECR formula change.

ECR Formula Change

What it says is simple. If you don't usually drain your ECR on your account, you're all good. Nothing has changed for you.

If you dip below 50% ECR from time to time, things aren't as pretty, because you burn 5x more ECR per game below 50%.

I like this change. Even though I sometimes dipped below 50% (even as low as 30%!), that's usually out of frustration because I couldn't reach a certain target I had.

And I made the mistake to keep trying and trying, even though the more frustrated I got the more I lost. I even made a post some time ago listing frustration as a reason to stop playing.

Now that I look at my own tips from two months ago, I realize frustration is what makes me dip below 75% ECR, in most cases, so it's responsible for two bad outcomes: burning through ECR and losing more matches.

Well, maybe with this new rule, at least I have a floor at 50%. Not that I was reaching those levels often. Maybe once every two seasons or something like that.

5 More Airdrop Days and New LP Rewards

I can't believe there are 5 more days till the SPS airdrop is over!

One year ago we were all excited it was coming, and now many are looking at its end as a halving event. This makes some sense since the SPS inflation will drop significantly after the airdrop ends.

Many are waiting for that to make their next moves. New liquidity pool providers rewards have been announced, which will add new incentives for holding DEC, SPS or even VOUCHERs in LPs, post-airdrop.

The DEC rewards were kind of a surprise since the team mentioned the plans to drop DEC as a reward token and transform it into a transactional token only. As presented, the DEC inflation for LP rewards will be about one-fifth of the one generated through ranked battles rewards right now.

We will see if this reduction is enough to push DEC close to its store value and keep it there from the downside. If not, there will soon be a simple SPS Governance Voting mechanism, so that SPS stakeholders can have their say.
