Making budget

Like most I get paid to do a job. I'm on a salary meaning I have a fixed amount of income annually, plus a car allowance, which gets paid fortnightly. I also have a commission-structure that pays me once annually, if I exceed my annual budget. Like most I wish I earned a lot more but, in the main, I'm reasonably content with what I earn once my annual salary, car allowance and commission bonus is paid.

I've never failed to exceed my annual budget each financial year and, in fact, normally exceed it by double figures; I work hard at it and am good at what I do.

In the last Australian financial year which ran from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020, I managed to meet my annual budget in about the middle of March 2020 so, in a normal year would have three months to smash it out of the park to the end of June which all works towards my annual commission payment. That what's happened on other years and I'be been paid accordingly. But this year wasn't really normal was it? We have this little thing called COVID-19 which has buggered everything up in a major way.

COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works as far as my business goes from about March and so the final months of the financial year were not as productive and fruitful as I would have liked. Yes, I exceeded my budget by more than I exceeded it in the previous financial year, but I think, due to the COVID situation, I'll not receive as much as I should because the company will probably dick me. (Yes, that's to official term).

The company will cite COVID-business-pressures as the reason for lower revenue all around, that's the indication I have. It kind of sucks really as it's just an excuse. I know the business's figures and know they have not been too bad, a little lower yes, but not super-low. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

I have a meeting with the Directors on Wednesday this week in which we will analyse my year and I've spent the last few days working on my presentation. Everything looks pretty good, my figures and statistics, and I am happy with the year overall however I have a bad feeling they will still try and hold money back. That will piss me off as I have worked so hard over the financial year to achieve the results I have attained.

I have heard of so many people being cheated out of money by their company lately; They seem to feel COVID is a legitimate excuse to fail to pay people bonuses and commissions, change work situations that disadvantage workers and force people to work when on furlough or reduced hours and pay scenarios. I was only talking with my brother @tarazkp tonight about this very thing. He's currently on leave but having to work to keep up with the demands of the job and his company is getting away with it, like many others, simply because COVID. It's shit. (Yes, that's my professional opinion.)

I'm not sure how things will go for me Wednesday; I'll either be happy or not, however what I do know is that many companies have handled this COVID situation poorly and, in time, it will cost them good people as they will leave seeking employment elsewhere when opportunities arise; I know of many people looking into exit-plans and rethinking their feeling of security at their current workplaces. I think that's smart as I do not believe we have seen the true impact and financial woes that COVID will bring.

So, tell me y'all...How have you guys been coping with it? Have you been subjected to some of this sort of behaviour at your workplace? Have you been stood-down, furloughed, fired or had reduced hours and pay? How has it affected you and how do you feel things will go moving forward?
