Investment is one word that a lot of people say regularly and most cases investing in one’s self is always emphasized. It is believed that it is impossible to invest in something else without investing in oneself and investing in oneself is the biggest investment with the biggest dividend. I know there are a lot of people who will ask “how do I invest in myself”? In this post I will talk about investing in oneself and how people will invest in themselves to achieve good result.

Just like there are good and bad investment in stocks and businesses, so are there good and bad investment when investing in oneself. As a child, the first and most important way we were taught to invest in our is reading. We were taught how to read the letters, understands numbers, learn arithmetic, build our knowledge in course we love, and feel will be of good importance to us and so on. These readings were good investment because they were important to our growth. A lot of us read books at an early age bust started to dislike it as we were forced to read a lot of books we didn’t like or wouldn’t be of importance to us and so we started losing interest in it. Investment in yourself means adding value to yourself so if you see a book that is not adding value to you, then you just must quit it else it becomes a bad investment.

I met with a man who love listening to audios and asking questions from people, he would say “I learn from the knowledge shared by others”. Listening to resources and people that will improve your live will create a growth in your endeavors. It is better to have a mentor who will help you grow than have a person who thinks the same way with you, act the same way you do and do other things the same way you do.

Create a network of influential friend and people around your life. A friend of mine went for an interview and he got the job because his friend was a close friend to the CEO. Although, he qualified for the job but because he had a network of people/friends, he was considered as priority.

Learn continuously so you do not become obsolete. About 10 years ago, the need for developers weren’t on the high but there was a future for developers in the future and so, people started learning programming while a lot of people didn’t see reasons to why it was important. Fast forward 10 years now and everyone wants to have a knowledge of programming. Learning new skills and acquiring vast knowledge in different aspects and industries is important for growth.

Teach people whatever you learn so it remains fresh in your mind as well as you become a part of impacting other people. While I was in the University, I remember that whenever I teach people a course or topic, I tend to know that topic more. In most cases, I try to break down whatever I am teaching to its simplest form.

In conclusion, the first place to invest money and time in life is in yourself as it is the result of such investment that bring out other successful investment.
