'The Net' Opening Scene

No money is officially money until you buy pizza with it.

You may have heard the story of how someone bought pizza with 10000 BTC. Some one named Laszlo posts on a Bitcoin forum in May 2010 saying that they would pay 10000 BTC for a couple of pizzas. That story gets repeated a lot when people talk about Bitcoin.

On May 18, 2010 Laszlo says:

I'll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day. I like having left over pizza to nibble on later. You can make the pizza yourself and bring it to my house or order it for me from a delivery place, but what I'm aiming for is getting food delivered in exchange for bitcoins where I don't have to order or prepare it myself, kind of like ordering a 'breakfast platter' at a hotel or something, they just bring you something to eat and you're happy!

I like things like onions, peppers, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, pepperoni, etc.. just standard stuff no weird fish topping or anything like that. I also like regular cheese pizzas which may be cheaper to prepare or otherwise acquire.

If you're interested please let me know and we can work out a deal.

Thanks, Laszlo

Nobody responded for three days, and Laszlo posted again on May 21, 2010:

So nobody wants to buy me pizza? Is the bitcoin amount I'm offering too low?

Finally, the next day Laszlo reported success:

I just want to report that I successfully traded 10,000 bitcoins for pizza.

And they also shared the photos of the purchased pizza.

The value of 10,000 bitcoins at that time was about $41 USD and Laszlo paid $20.50 USD per pizza. This is an interesting story in Bitcoin's history and will be repeated many many times in the future.

While you may have heard this story, you many not be aware of that first online sale had also to do with pizza. In 1994 Pizza Hut was the first to sell something over the internet. However, just like in Laszlo's case the payment wasn't done online and instead money changed hands with delivery. Only ordering of pizzas was done online.

So, no money is really money until we use it to buy pizza. :)

Time to make Hive Dollars (HBD) real money and spend them to buy some pizza.

I have a budget of 50 HBD, which is currently worth $100 USD in the market, to buy you some pizza.

It may be one Hive Bee or more who ends up with pizza. I don't know. Prices for pizza are different everywhere, and we have a global Hive community.

If you would like me to buy you pizza, just leave a comment with the following information:

  • What kind of pizza would you buy?
  • Where will you buy it from? (Country and Company if you wish to share)
  • How much will it cost you in USD?
  • Will you commit to actually buy pizza with HBD sent?
  • Optional: share photos of the pizza you would be getting.

My favorite pizza is Pagliacci's Pear Primo which they don't serve anymore. It is a pizza with pear and walnut toppings.

Obviously 50 HBD or $100 USD is not enough to buy pizzas for everybody. I decided to start choosing from the cheapest prices and keep going up until the budget runs out. It is up to you if you want to buy a slice of pizza or family size or party size. It is up to you what kind of pizza and from where you buy. I would request one thing, when you end up buying pizza please come back and share photos if you can.

This pizza contest will end in 3 days and I sent out HBD to a winner or winners.

You don't need to wait to make Hive Dollars pizza certified. Feel free to spend your HBD for buying pizza and make a post about it. Make sure to let me know, so I can 100% upvote this effort. Or even better, buy other Hive Bees some pizza. :)

Who wants some pizza?

Please reblog this post so more people can see and participate.
