Hive Punks – An Update About My Newest Obsession – Liketu Obsession Challenge Entry
As many of you may know, I’ve been collecting Hive Punks, but that’s probably an understatement, I kinda went nuts with it:
- I purchased almost a hundred Punks off the market at full price
- I began collecting records of every punk sold on the Market
- I created the fan club: Punk Legends
- I bought delegation to curate posts from punk holders that are new to Hive
- I began hosting Punk Giveaways
- I entered and even won some of the Liketu Challenges, so I could give more Punks away
- I begged whales for support and I probably burnt a few bridges in the process
- I harassed a DJ outside of Hive to help with a Punk Podcast
- I developed a Punk game and forced my family to test it over Christmas
- I harassed countless devs to try to get them to help build the game
- And there’s more things that I’m just too ashamed to speak of...
So why did I do it?
The way I look at it, I can invest in just about any crypto, but with Punks, this is the ground floor and I can actually play a huge part in their success. I can’t say that with any other crypto and it really is a situation where the more effort I put in, the more likely Hive Punks will be a success and I can see the results of my actions, good or bad, immediately.
In an interview @themarkymark said that the community has just as much power to build upon his creation that he does, which I view as an open invitation for us to make Punks great and to show the rest of the cryptosphere what the Hive engine is capable of.
Also, Punks are fun to collect and I have some strategies.
Many people just go for the highest rarity, but not me. I think avatars will be one of the main uses for punks, so looks are important and some punks have the “it” factor, where all the attributes line up to make the perfect punk, those are the ones I’m after and despite their rarity score these punks are usually one of a kind.
@themarkymark created a Discord bot for searching attributes which I use all the time, but the bot can’t search multiple attributes, so if you need to narrow down the search, your best option is to ask Marky.
Another strategy is to corner the market on a certain attributes, which is easier than you might think, like with Male punks with Flamenco hats, I wasn’t trying to corner the market, but then one day I noticed that I owned more than half of the ones listed on the market, how the hell did that happen?
I just said “Oh look! A gunslinger! and I bought it, then I promptly forgot and I guess I kept repeating that process. So I had to make a mental note, “Stop buying gunslingers, we’re not cornering that one!”
Also, don’t tell people which punks your cornering, hide them amongst your various alt accounts that you use to tell the whales how stupid they are, and then out of no where, be like: “BAMMM!!! Your surrounded by all my gunslingers!...” Which I’m seriously not collecting…
Even though I missed the minting, somehow, on a shoestring budget, I managed to get one of the best punk collections. Using my one-of-a-kind strategy I managed to get many that were undervalued but extremely rare for weird reasons, like:
- Shiloh Gay – A Girl with a Handlebar Moustache
- ID 888 – one of the luckiest numbers
- Benjamin Franklin – How awesome is that!?
- Judge Ayaan Justice
- The only Cro-magnon Punk – Professor Bellamy Lawson
- Rarity 69 - One of the least rare punks
Then there are some that are just awesome:
- The Grinch – Thanks to Liketu.com
- A Ninja Turtle
- An undercover cop posing as a clown
- An Event Coordinator that’s all decked out for a party
- A Gunslinging Park Ranger
- A Tour Guide who looks like a Voodoo Witchdoctor
- All my Smokers
- An evil king – or even all my Kings and Queens
Oh seriously!... I have to stop before I name them all lol
Like I said before, I missed the minting, so I completely understand how people feel like they missed out, so with donations from @wizardx, @marcurio and myself, I’ve been running giveaways to get punks into more people’s hands, but I have a limited amount of punks.
So I was toying with the idea of auctioning off Tanner Ponce and using the proceeds to buy some undervalued punks off the market to donate to new people, what do you guys think of this idea?
Would you overpay/bid on this Punk to support more Giveaways?
Also, another issue I have had is whale votes, the post needs to make a certain amount or it doesn’t trend enough for new people to see it, so I end up harassing new people on Discord, which I don’t if you’ve ever tried to give something away on Discord, but people tend to think it’s a trick and so many reported me to Discord that they tried to shut down my account.
On the last Giveaway I made a deal with Liketu and they were very gracious to sponsor that post even though the image messed up. Even though they are wonderful people, I don’t think begging Liketu for votes is a good long term solution. So I’m still looking for ways to get large votes for Giveaways, I might try taking a zero payout, do you think this might be enough to get support from a whale or do any of you have a better solution?
Anyways, I think I derailed this Obsession Challenge entry, but maybe that’s the point of any good obsession, it makes you ramble and you alienate all your friends...
I would suggest that everyone enter the Liketu challenges, Liketu has been so generous. I actually won a few punks off of their challenges, one of which I’m donating and the other, The Grinch, is so badass that I’m using it as my avatar.
Part of this Challenge is to add five images, so I’m showing off all my punks that I have for sale and in my wallet, but really they’re all for sale, so if you see any that you like make me an offer.
