Did You Know That Gridcoin Has a Burn Mechanism?

Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency that aims to promote distributed citizen science. To this end, users can be rewarded with Gridcoins if they download the program BOINC and then support research with the unused computing power of their computer. The blockchain itself is secured using proof of stake.

However, if a user wants to be rewarded with Gridcoin for BOINC work, they must register with the network. To do this, a special transaction is sent and in this process a small amount of Gridcoins is burned.

Furthermore, Gridcoin has a built-in voting tool. Any user with at least 100k Gridcoin can start a vote and users can then vote in the wallet. Votes can then be weighted based on balance only or balance and computing power donated to BOINC. Gridcoins are also burned in this process.

The process of burning Gridcoin was changed with the Fern update about 2 years ago. Since this update, more than 21,667 Gridcoins have been burned so far.
