Olga Boznańska, Portrait of Helena Kurpiel-Łękawska, 1900

Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to convince you it is the right thing to do with your money now. If you did
not do so before, you probably missed huge opportunity. Polish art is still relatively little known and at the same time many Polish artists worked in France or Germany in the 19th century. This resulted in quite large number of paintings there, which for a long time could be had for nothing, because their creators were virtually unknown both to present owners as well as antique dealers. But they were well-known in their native country. So a few people made a very profitable business from buying Polish art abroad cheaply and selling it with enormous profit in Poland. As I said, now the opportunity is gone, as almost all auctions advertise on the internet and the prices for Polish painting almost everywhere levelled up. But I guess even in the global economy there still exist similar niches. It takes lot of knowledge and courage to profit from them but, as the example of Polish painting shows, the gains can be enormous (I deliberately do not give exact figures, if you are interested you will quickly google it up).
