I guess that many of you are aware of the different Hive's out there, but this is not about them. This is about our Hive. This is about Hive, the blockchain we know.

I found a post about the "the worst name in crypto?" by @felixxx, and he brings up some good points.

Even coinmarketcap does not know the difference between Hive and Hive.

While it's true that even coinmarketcap doesn't seem to know the difference between Hive and Hive, and it's also true that the top ranked "Hive" on Google is Hive.com.

Hive.io, our beloved blockchain for web3 sits below another Hive as well. APACHE HIVE TM.

This is bad for us. We can't seem to outrank these other sites which makes things tricky to say the least in terms of organic traffic.

I've talked about branding in the past and I personally think that "Hive" was a terrible choice for our name. It was poorly researched and even though I don't know exactly how they came up with that name, it's crystal clear that people didn't think things through before deciding on that name.

It’s either insufficient or poorly executed research or ignorance that caused this. Or a mix of both.

I have worked with brand building and I have a history of working with hundreds of clients from all over the world. I have worked with individuals to mid-sized companies and I have never done such a poor job building any of my clients names like we have done with Hive. And yes, I say we even though we could argue about that for days.

Unfortunately, we haven't accomplished much in all this time, in that regard. In terms of pointing people towards Hive and spreading the word. Hive is obviously Hive for all of us and probably for the people over on Steem, but what about the "masses"?

  • They can barely find us on search engines.

Our name doesn't show up high on search engines and it's nearly impossible to find content published from Hive if or when you search for things on Google or other search engines. We are basically invisible to the "outside world" and that is sure haunting us and makes things a lot more difficult in terms of onboarding and mass-adoption.

  • We are pretty much screwed in that sense.

Sure, we are fast, scalable, powerful and we are the blockchain for Web3, but we have messed up. It's okay to admit that. We failed to get a good name and we have failed in terms of onboarding.. It doesn't mean that we are doomed to fail though, as long as we change things.

I have said this numerous times in the past. We should stop trying to market Hive, because honestly speaking, Hive doesn't mean much at all, for anyone except for the people who already knows what Hive is. It's more or less pointless.

Take IKEA for instance: IKEA as a brand comprises two separate owners. INGKA Holding B.V. owns IKEA Group, the holding of the group. At the same time that is held by the Stichting INGKA Foundation, which is the owner of the whole Group.

I have never seen ads for "INGKA Holding B.V" or "Stichting INGKA Foundation", but I have seen IKEA ads for years. Also, most people knows what IKEA is, but they continue to market themselves and they continue to spread the word.

While Hive means more or less nothing for the world, the communities will- and can mean the world for everyone. LeoFinance.io for instance, is moving mountains already with killer development, interesting content and features.

I have ranked multiple LeoFinance articles at the top of google and even though most of the posts are ranked using low-hanging fruit or low-competition keywords, we see results on search engines.

  • Imagine 5, 10 or even 50 "LeoFinance"-communities on Hive.

Imagine the results if people would market LeoFinance instead of Hive. Imagine the outcome if people stopped wasting time trying to advertise Hive as the blockchain for web3 when the world doesn't even understand the need for web3.

What I truly believe we need before we can "bring in the masses" is answers.

Do we want "the average Joe" or are we still trying to bring in the "underground anti-government anarchists"? - Personally? I don't care about the latter at all. We already have a bunch of them and they are likely to join with time, regardless if we try to bring them in or not. It will happen automatically at some point.

I want the "Average Joe's" on board. I believe in them. I think that is what "Hive" needs to see serious growth. I want all the stay at home moms trying to earn some extra money here and there online. I want all the beginner bloggers, vloggers and content creators. I want all of them and I know that it will be much easier to bring them in if I point them in the right direction.

I can bring some of them to LeoFinance. Some of them to 3speak and others to Splinterlands. With time, I will be able to point some of them towards other communities, but there's no point in doing that if that is not the "long haul goal" of others as well.

  • What Do YOU Want?
