Long Term Thinking Doesn't Necessarily Mean Staking & Holding.

Whenever someone talks about being a short- or long term thinker in crypto, people often refers long term thinking to staking and holding tokens. More often than not, we see large accounts on Hive (or its Tribes) talking about investing and holding tokens to live off of the interest and whatever. That's what long term thinking is for a lot of people on Hive. To stake and hold tokens for a very long period of time.

You can think long term without necessarily accumulating tokens and holding them for a long time though, even though most people only accept "long term holders" as long term thinkers.

Long term thinking actually means that you are comfortable envisioning and consciously working towards the future. It's a viewpoint that brings to life the exciting possibilities of what's to come, and each decision you make is made with an expected timeline in mind.

I am in this whole crypto or "Hive-thing" for the long haul and even though I would obviously rather hold more than less tokens right now, so I could yield awesome profits years from now, I found a good use case for my tokens today. This basically means that I am very likely to miss out on profits later on, but it still helps me at this point in my life so it's a calculated risk so to speak. I am perfectly okay with the outcome as it's entirely based upon my own decision and actions.

While the majority of the people on Hive frequently creates content to earn rewards so they can either grow into a larger account or because they cash-out and use the money in real life, most of them never thinks twice on the actual content they share. They share because they want to earn and there's nothing wrong with that. Hive is built that way. It's built to reward those who put in effort and time. It's built to reward those who work hard and produce quality content.

It's a "flawed" system though, because everyone knows that it doesn't work exactly how one would think or wish. Auto-votes and/or other forms of "vote-exchanging" or circle-jerks makes things a lot easier for some people while others will struggle more.

Comments like:

"Put in effort, work hard and produce quality content"

Is often seen whenever someone asks for advice or wonders how they are supposed to ever reach a somewhat "decent" payout. We've seen it for years. That's a different story though.

Anyhow, @forexbrokr and I often seem to be on the same page when it comes to content and value. We both believe that real value comes from search engines and organic traffic.

It's about the HIVE price itself, not your individual balance in tokens.

This is exactly how I think as well. Sure, it would be awesome to have 100K tokens lying around in my wallet whenever the price goes up to $10, but how likely are we to ever see that happen?

It's not the case with Steem and it's not the case with Hive. Sure, we've seen some crazy numbers here and there in the past, but ignoring that.. We're sitting at less than $0.5/token. Actually, almost half of that at the time I am writing this. ~$0.25/Token.

I don't mean to offend anyone and this is not because I have lost interest or faith in Hive. Not at all. In fact, it's the other way around. I believe in Hive and the potential we have here, but I truly believe that our "leaders" need to take actions and pave the way for others differently now.

I don't talk about new dApps or some new security stuff. We've seen new things lately and we have more to come in the (near) future as well. What I talk about is content creation though.

I talk about rewarding the same people day in and day out because it's "the easy thing to do". I talk about spreading the word and reaching new people. We need to change things if we want Hive to grow. We can't continue on the exact same path, doing the exact same thing we've done for years and expect a different outcome. We need to take a different route. Analyze things we have done in the past, change things moving forward and put in effort going for other results.

  • That's what I call long term thinking.

We have people doing marketing and all types of things but we've had that for years and we haven't seen much of an impact. I don't mean to say that we've done that in vain, because we need marketing.

We have retention issues. We have a hard time keeping people on Hive. People leave for various reasons but my best guess is that most of them leave because they feel ignored and under-rewarded.

  • Simply put, they expect more than they get.

LeoFinance came in from "nowhere" and made things a lot easier for users to earn. Suddenly, users could get paid in two tokens at the same time and the price started to increase for LEO. LEO tokens was quickly worth more than Hive and it was awesome to see. It was fun, new and felt fresh. It made things easier for literally everyone involved because it increased the chances of being curated and it gave curators more content to curate.

Proofofbrain was riding a wave behind and quickly went past LeoFinance. Much for the same reasons. Sure, we could debate all day and night about all the new features and innovative things they both brought to the table, but the majority of the people use tribes to earn tokens and it's easier to earn when something is new and fresh. My point is that we want Hive to be fun and feel fresh.

People saw more potential with LeoFinance & Proofofbrain. They realized that these additions to Hive could be life changing and/or at least change literally everything for them in the future.

  • That's how we get people to stay.

We (the current users) needs to pave the way for newcomers. We need to educate and support them. We need to make sure that they feel welcome and that they are enjoying the time they spend. Hive is filled with amazing people with various talents. Hive is literally an endless pool of knowledge.

Also, why I personally think that evergreen content and optimization is extremely important is to bring more people to Hive (and tribes) through search engines. That's organic traffic. That traffic will come naturally because people are searching for information, which would change the entire game for Hive.

If content creators on Hive would make 1 out of 5 articles optimized and if that specific content would be evergreen content, I promise you that we would see real growth rapidly. That's why I talk about optimized content a lot. That's why I show you how I have ranked articles. That's why @forexbrokr talks about it as well. We know the value of organic traffic. We know that it would change Hive forever.

That being said, @taskmaster4450le wrote Leofinance: Time To Up Our Game yesterday and there's some really great news in that article:

@khaleelkazi mentioned that he is now working with a marketing firm to bring more traffic into the ecosystem. What is going to happen is press releases will be put together to target the different crypto media outlets. The goal is obviously to put the Leofinance and Cubfinance names in front of a lot more people.

*Leofinance is a long-form content site that focuses upon cryptocurrency and financial matters. The key is to have a presentable product that when people hit the landing page, *they see information that is worthwhile for them to read. This means that it is up to us to write such content.

The key here is to put ourselves in the shoes of other people. *Consider what we do when we go to a site that we never arrived at before. Basically, regardless of the site, when seeking out information, we want to find stuff that is informative and worthwhile to us. Hence, *it is important to put together articles which will be beneficial to the newer people who will eventually make their way there.

This is basically what I have done in the past, and what I have been aiming to do for a long period of time. Sure, I have done that because I have optimized articles and I have done that for ranking purposes, but the long goal is to bring organic traffic.

I tried to put myself in the shoes of other people and I tried to think of keywords people would search for on search engines. That's the reason for my "How To Earn Crypto From Blogging In 2021 " article to be ranked on top of google.

It might not be what people search for the most, but someone are literally bound to search for it during 2021. That means exposure we wouldn't have got without that article. So, LeoFinance is about to spend money on marketing/advertising, are you willing to step up your game and create different types of content to maximize the potential or will you continue on the same path you're already on?

  • Short Term or Long Term?
