I suppose that most people out there have seen the trending pages, popular posts or the curator's picks on LeoFinance.io for instance. These things has always been up for debate, ever since this place came alive. It has often been people talking about Hive not being fair and that the same authors are sitting on trending day in and day out. A lot of people have also been vocal about circle jerking and that there are a group of people voting for each other and ignoring the rest of the people out there.

We've heard people complaining about the rewards for several years in one way or another, and the truth is that I have been talking about these things more than once as well.

However, instead of hearing these endless complaints I figured I would try to talk about the actual importance of the popular posts, trending pages or the curator's picks. I want to highlight the positive impact these things have and what the benefits actually are with these things if they are used properly.

As I have talked about engagement lately and how that eventually could take us all the way up to $5 Hive, I want to talk about this because it goes well in hand with a users brand building and exposure.

I won't cover all the different interfaces, I will just focus on LeoFinance.io which is the one I use on a daily basis. Other interfaces has the same or similar things as well and I am sure you all know about the "trending pages" on Hive.blog for instance. There's no reason for me to show you any of that..

That being said though, you can easily see that there are five different spots for posts that are being picked by curators on LeoFinance. Those 5 articles will be at the top of the website which makes them "stand out from the rest" and it will maximize the visibility for the content.

The popular posts below are the ones with the highest rewards or articles that have been promoted.

You pay to promote your articles.

However, having your content visible and "directly in front" of content consumers makes things a lot easier for content creators and it's very likely that you will benefit tremendously if you are lucky enough to be picked by the LeoFinance curators.

The outcome doesn't only affect the potential rewards you get, you are also likely to see reblogs on your content, more comments and more followers as well. With each follower you have, you automatically increase your chances of being rewarded more in the future.

I won't go into any details about engagement this time as I've already done that in my previous post, but engagement is crucial for success. Both on an individual level but also on a bigger scale, like this community seeing new heights in the future.

A simple thing like a comment is likely to push us towards new heights as long as there is a combined effort, but perhaps more importantly for the content creators being here right now, they are crucial for your own success. You get new friends, get recognition, boost your presence and grow your audience while you're building your own brand, and that is definitely a super important thing for the users.

  • That's how winning is done.

Visibility & Exposure

I don't like to highlight certain users, especially not whales because I think it looks greedy and desperate to try to lure these people in, and it's just a lame attempt of getting upvotes. I obviously don't mind being rewarded, from the smallest fish or cub to the biggest whale or toruk of them all, but I wouldn't ask them for upvotes and I don't mass-tag people in an attempt of getting exposure. It's a stupid move and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

  • It's actually likely that it will have the opposite effect.

That being said, if you look at the screenshot above. That is from my latest article. onealfa.leo, the largest LEO holder decided to vote for my article. A bunch of people had already voted for it and I am obviously grateful for the support.. However, "toruk" came to the party after 9 hours. Due to his stake and the voting power he spent when he gave me an upvote, my article was pushed to the top of the popular posts on LeoFinance. This obviously increased the pending rewards for that article, as that single vote is worth ~60 LEO, but it also caused more "buzz" and "hype", which made more people joining in on the fun.

I got some new followers and a bunch of comments where being made so I suddenly had more engagement on my content as well. That's a win-win-win for me. I grow my stake, my audience and I am boosting the overall engagement on LeoFinance which is my long haul goal..

  • All with one single post, much due to one single upvote.

That is not all there is to it though, the curator's picks on LeoFinance is often articles from different users about various things. Some are talking about BTC and others about CUB. Some are talking about Hive and others about credit cards. The bonus for anyone who is being picked is amazing and could also potentially be the start of something life-changing for a content creator due to the motivation and encouragement they get.

As long as new people are being found and not the same authors are sitting on top of the "trending pages", there's a lot of benefits with those pages. It gives content consumers and curators a superb chance to discover new users they can curate as well, so it's not just a bonus for a creator.

  • Everyone can- and will benefit by these pages as long as we have variety.
