According to the analysis and research firm Atlántico, Argentina leads the crypto market in Latin America, doubling the investment of Brazil that is located in second place, Chile is further behind in third place and Mexico in fourth place.

Although these are data from 2020, the rapid growth of the southern country is in line with the depreciation of the peso that has been accentuated in recent times and it is almost certain that in 2021 the figures will increase considerably.

America and the world

Leading the Latin American ranking may mean that it is not a great brand, however, it is ranked fourth in the world behind the United States, China, and India, countries with an economic and population weight well above that of the southern nation.

As I have mentioned in other publications, the lower the confidence in the local currency and given the restrictions imposed on the purchase of foreign currency, the Argentine does not have too many options. The placement of savings in traditional assets such as fixed terms and investment funds have shown that they do not cover depreciation due to inflation, so it is practically forced to look for other ways to preserve them and cryptocurrencies are a widely used option, they have replaced the dollar as a reserve of value which is saying a lot given that in the country the sympathy for the American currency is deeply rooted and comes from many years ago.

Good proportion

One thing that is surprising is the proportion between GDP and operations with cryptocurrencies, while in other countries much more developed than Argentina that ratio does not reach 7%, in the Latin American country it is very close to 13%.

Digital assets are weighing heavily on the region's economy and this is also being demonstrated by the large number of financial technology companies that have opened in recent years and the enormous growth of DeFi and Dex projects and platforms.

A fairer world

Is the idea that the crypto paradigm helps to build a fairer and more equitable world is beginning to be realized?

Según la firma de análisis e investigación Atlántico, la Argentina lidera el mercado cripto en Latinoamérica, doblando la inversión de Brasil que se ubica en segundo lugar, más atrás quedan Chile en tercer lugar y México en el cuarto puesto.

Si bien son datos del 2020, el rápido crecimiento del país austral en consonancia con la depreciación del peso que se ha acentuado en los últimos tiempos y es casi seguro que en el 2021 las cifras aumentarán considerablemente.

Liderar el ranking Latinoamericano puede suponer que no es una gran marca sin embargo se ubica en el cuarto puesto en el mundo detrás de Estados Unidos, China, e India, países con un peso económico y poblacional muy por encima del de la nación austral.

Como he mencionado en otras publicaciones, cuanto más baja la confianza en la moneda local y ante las restricciones impuestas en la compra de moneda extranjera, al argentino no le quedan demasiadas opciones. La colocación de ahorros en activos tradicionales como plazos fijos y fondos de inversión han demostrado que no cubren la depreciación por inflación por lo que prácticamente está obligado a buscar otras formas de preservarlos y las criptomonedas son una opción muy utilizada, éstas han sustituido al dólar como reserva de valor lo cual es mucho decir dado que en el país la simpatía por la moneda americana está muy arraigada y viene de muchos años atrás.

Una cosa que sorprende es la proporción entre el PBI y las operaciones con criptomonedas, mientras en otros países mucho más desarrollados que la Argentina esa relación no llega al 7%, en el país latinoamericano está muy cerca del 13%.

Los activos digitales están teniendo un gran peso en la economía de la región y eso se está demostrando también por la gran cantidad de empresas de tecnología financiera que se han abierto en los últimos años y el enorme crecimiento de los proyectos y plataformas DeFi y Dex.

¿Estará comenzando a cumplirse la idea de que el paradigma cripto ayuda a construir un mundo más justo y equitativo?
