For some time I have been following the news about NFT, not because digital art interests me particularly but because like many others I do not quite understand the concept of owning something that anyone can see and even store in their own digital medium without having to pay. thus. Of course, what I have just expressed is a simplified idea of what the arrival of NFT to the art world represents, it is still too new to delve into implications and derivations, even newer to give definitive conclusions.

To try to understand a little more about buying digital art, let's draw a parallel and see what happens today with an investment in traditional art.

I remember the pyramid of human needs, I think it was made by an American psychologist whose last name does not come to mind at the moment, but I do remember that the base of the pyramid was the primary needs, specifically the physiological ones, and then went up to the top: security, relationships, self-esteem and finally fulfillment. Clearly, the acquisition of works of art is at the top of the needs, that is, in that place where goods are accumulated only to satisfy their own esteem or to feel fulfilled. The aforementioned pyramid does not have an exact relationship with the money that a person owns, but if it is true that before satisfying a higher need the most basic need should be satisfied, of course, there are exceptions, however in most people it happens that way.

Any digital creation is susceptible to becoming an NFT, that is great news for artists who will be able to skip bureaucratic stages and even exclusion to be able to exhibit and sell their works in a simple and safe way. It is also an investment opportunity and why not say it of speculation for many who are attentive to everything that means obtaining money. The meaning that an NFT can represent today is the same that gives a certain value to incunabula or a rare and rare edition of a magazine, an old toy in its original packaging, or a difficult to obtain a card of a baseball figure. Not everything that is offered in NFT meets those conditions of course but the spirit is the same of the collections and the collectors.

Perhaps in a few years, we will be seeing how the story of Laszlo Hanyecz and 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas repeats itself or how a few visionaries entered the big business of the NFTs first, perhaps it is just a bubble that will deflate at the slightest contact with something solid and sharp, it is not known exactly and I do not think that anyone is in a position to affirm it at this time.
