The end of what was not - El fin del que no fue
I remember the beginnings of the web, at that time the first search engines and browsers began to emerge, an absolute necessity if one did not want to get lost forever in the intricate and chaotic labyrinths of the first sketches of a global hypertext exchange network in pages whose ornamentation was rudimentary and very restricted due to the characteristics of that time. Hypermedia only emerged years later.
One of the first search engines I remember was Yahoo! Based on another called Magellan; Within this explosion of applications to search for content on the web and redirect users to the site of their choice were also Lycos, Altavista, Ask, Excite, Firefox and several others, including some important internet service providers of those times such as AOL and America Online had short-lived search engine projects of their own.
The technology of that time was very different from that of now, and the competition to prevail has not changed. The war to dominate the search and navigation service was totally unleashed from those beginnings and of course, Microsoft would not be far behind. Quickly and in the usual way of buying an already developed code and then improving it by injecting bills, Internet Explorer emerged with the firm determination to become the king of the segment, of course, they did not take Google into account, and had to settle for the cake crumbs.
A few days ago, IE ceased to exist almost in anonymity, which was one of the most famous browsers on the market only because Microsoft was behind it, supporting it, beyond its true possibilities.
After 26 years of permanence in the market, as of 06/15/2022 IE will no longer have maintenance, so it will soon cease to be compatible with new technologies that are implemented on the web, its users will be redirected to the Edge, a more modern, secure and fast, with the necessary fundamentals to better adapt to the changes demanded by current technology.
For accustomed users, it will be a bit of a shock, but they have to be calm, the Edge will welcome them with all their passwords and favorites safe since the transfer is guaranteed transparent and clean.
The Edge promises to compete hand in hand with Google, a difficult task.
Recuerdo los comienzos de la web, por aquella época comenzaron a surgir los primeros buscadores y navegadores, una necesidad absoluta si uno no quería perderse para siempre en los intrincados y caóticos laberintos de los primeros esbozos de una red mundial de intercambio de hipertextos en formato de páginas cuya ornamentación era rudimentaria y muy restringida por las características propias de ese momento. La hipermedia recién surgió años después.
Uno de los primeros buscadores que recuerdo fue Yahoo! Basado en otro llamado Magellan; dentro de esa explosión de aplicaciones para buscar contenidos en la web y redirigir a los usuarios al sitio de su preferencia también estuvieron Lycos, Altavista, Ask, Excite, Firefox y varios otros, inclusive algunos proveedores importantes del servicio de internet de aquellos tiempos como AOL y America Online tuvieron proyectos de buscadores propios que duraron poco tiempo.
La tecnología de aquel momento era muy distinta a la de ahora, la competencia por imponerse no ha tenido cambios. La guerra por dominar el servicio de búsqueda y navegación estuvo desde esos inicios totalmente desatada y por supuesto Microsoft no se quedaría atrás. Rápidamente y de la manera habitual de comprar un código ya desarrollado para luego mejorarlo a fuerza de inyectar billetes, surgió el Internet Explorer con la firme determinación de convertirse en el rey del segmento, por supuesto no tuvieron en cuenta a Google y debieron conformarse con las migajas de la torta.
Pocos días atrás dejo de existir casi en el anonimato el IE, que fue uno los más famosos navegadores del mercado solo gracias a que Microsoft estaba detrás, sosteniéndolo, más allá de sus verdaderas posibilidades.
Luego de 26 años de permanencia en el mercado, a partir del 15/06/2022 el IE no tendrá más mantenimiento por lo que pronto dejará de ser compatibles con las nuevas tecnologías que se implementen en la web, sus usuarios serán redirigidos al Edge, más moderno, seguro y rápido, con los fundamentos necesarios como para adaptarse mejor a los cambios que demanda la tecnología actual.
Para los acostumbrados usuarios será un pequeño cimbronazo, pero tienen que estar tranquilos, el Edge los acogerá con todas sus claves y favoritos a salvo ya que el traspaso se asegura transparente y limpio.
El Edge promete competir mano a mano con Google, difícil tarea.
