The press and cryptocurrencies - La prensa y las criptomonedas

In my country, we are once again witnessing an attack by the government on the free press and its journalists, and I say it again because there have been various attempts to silence criticism, although fundamentally the investigations, which are carried out carried out from that sector about the shenanigans of the governments in power. I cannot fail to emphasize that some of the trials that several political leaders who hold high positions in the government face today began as journalistic investigations. That's why I can't help but remember Watergate, just to put in white on black what journalism means worldwide.

Also in other Latin American countries, there are currently strong questions and proclamations against journalism, Venezuela is the main reference with a gag law that they call against hate. Lula Da Silva, who is ahead in the polls for the next presidential election in Brazil, is a staunch defender of these same ideas and has expressed them repeatedly, including recently.

But in this #leofinance space we are here to talk about cryptocurrencies and their economy, so some will think that I was in the wrong place; however, it is not so.

Let's talk about cryptocurrencies

At this time I bring up a topic that has been on the table for a long time, although it seems that not many dare to mention it, "let's not make waves that we can all drown" would be the watchword. The subject is the most important stablecoin today by market capitalization: Tether (USDT) and the company that issues it Tether Limited.

Exposition

According to experts, there is much concern about the latest balance that the company itself displays on its website, where there is a small and disturbing difference between its assets and liabilities. I don't even want to imagine what a debacle of this cryptocurrency would cause in the already weakened and doubtful crypto ecosystem.

Reaction

From the company, they came out to reproach the critical and warning articles that were published in the specialized press and also in the international media that deal with financial and economic issues such as The Wall Street Journal, accusing them of being ill-intentioned and dishonest, who only want damage the image of the company. Needless to say, it is a campaign of hate, as my government's diatribes often mention.

If we think that those responsible for Terra/luna and also from the Celsius cryptocurrency loan company had similar reactions to criticism from the press and how they ended, we can only pray, whatever our religion.

It would be best if Tether owns up to its mistakes and develops and explains a plan to fix the issues. And if the articles and comments of the analysts are erroneous, that they explain in detail the reasons for the failed conclusions.

Calm

While we wait for one thing or another, let us remain calm and pray that the god of cryptocurrencies casts his healing gaze on the situation and perhaps with it, the hate speech (or rather uncomfortable) of the press.

En mi país nuevamente estamos en presencia de un ataque por parte del gobierno hacia la prensa libre y sus periodistas, y digo otra vez porque son varios los intentos que se han llevado a cabo para acallar las críticas, aunque fundamentalmente las investigaciones, que se llevan a cabo desde ese sector sobre los chanchullos de los gobiernos de turno. No puedo dejar de resaltar que algunos de los juicios que hoy enfrentan varios dirigentes políticos que ostentan altos cargos en el gobierno comenzaron siendo investigaciones periodísticas. Por eso es que no puedo menos que recordar Watergate, solo para poner en blanco sobre negro lo que significa el periodismo a nivel mundial.

También en otros países de Latinoamérica hay en estos momentos fuertes cuestionamientos y proclamas contra el periodismo, Venezuela es el principal referente con una ley mordaza a la que ellos llaman contra el odio. Lula Da Silva, adelante en las encuestas para la próxima elección presidencial en Brasil ,es un acérrimo defensor de esas mismas ideas y las ha expuesto en reiteradas oportunidades, también recientemente.

Pero en este espacio de #leofinance estamos para hablar de criptomonedas y su economía, entonces algunos pensarán que me equivoqué de lugar; sin embargo, no es así.

Hablemos de criptomonedas

Traigo en este momento un tema que ya está en el tapete desde hace tiempo, aunque parece que no muchos se animan a mencionarlo, “no hagamos olas que nos podemos ahogar todos” sería la consigna. El tema es la más importante stablecoin de la actualidad por capitalización de mercado: Tether (USDT) y la empresa que la emite Tether Limited.

Según los expertos hay mucha preocupación por el último balance que la propia empresa exhibe en su sitio web, donde se observa una escasa e inquietante diferencia entre sus activos y pasivos. No quiero ni imaginar lo que una debacle de esta criptomoneda provocaría en el ya de por si debilitado y dubitativo ecosistema cripto.

Reacción

Desde la empresa salieron a reprochar los artículos críticos y de alerta que se divulgaron en la prensa especializada y también en los medios internacionales que tratan temas financieros y económicos como The Wall Street Journal, acusando a los mismos de mal intencionados y deshonestos, que solo quieren dañar la imagen de la compañía. Faltó decir que es una campaña de odio como suelen mencionar las diatribas de mi gobierno.

Si pensamos que reacciones similares tuvieron los responsables de Terra/luna y también desde la compañía de préstamos de criptomonedas Celsius ante críticas de la prensa y como terminaron, no podemos menos que ponernos a rezar, sea cual fuere nuestra religión.

Lo mejor sería que Tether asuma sus errores y desarrolle y explique un plan para sanear los inconvenientes. Y si los artículos y comentarios de los analistas son erróneos, que expliquen detalladamente los porqués de las conclusiones fallidas.

Calma

Mientras esperamos una cosa u otra, mantengamos la calma y roguemos porque el dios de las criptomonedas pose su mirada sanadora sobre la situación y quizás con ello se acalle, al menos hasta el próximo fallido, el discurso del odio (o mejor dicho incómodo) de la prensa.
