Punks on Hive: A sad race to the bottom

To begin with, I know I will always own at least one punk because I really think the idea of owning the character that is in my profile picture. The one I am using right now on my profile picture I plan to just keep. The rest I am trying to flip to buy better punks.

I like the punk I am using on my profile picture so much that I thought about shaving my hair off just to look like it. I did not shave my hair because I hope to buy a punk with hair that actually looks like me.

But the punks flipping will probably never work. They were sold, initially, for 20 SWAP.HIVE each, and right now they are selling for almost 10 on the cheapest end.

My original strategy was to buy the cheapest ones so that the price would go up and I would have a lot of punks worth a lot of money, but it all went wrong and more and more punks were being sold for cheaper and cheaper, I allow can not swallow all that volume. The amount of sales (even at a loss) shows me people lost interest in the punks, which makes me sad.

Look, I still believe the punks have their value for the same reason I want to always keep at least one punk with me, to use in my profile picture, but if others don't see the same value it is worthless.

The app also is disappointingly abandoned. @themarkymark moved on a project about Minecraft and the website of Punks on Hive has not had an update for weeks already.

I sincerely appreciate the last, and only, a big update that Marky did. The original website had a TERRIBLE performance. Eventually, the website was updated and everything became fast and responsive and my hopes were big.

Now we have not had an update for weeks. I am a programmer and I think I should build by my hands my own app to add value to the punks, but I simply do not have the time (yet). I have one full-time job and I am doing 2 freelances on the side to bring extra money. I really wish I could make an app for the punks to revive them, but I simply do not have the time.

The ideas for the app I have, and I wish to build at some point (please, feel free to copy them, I don't care about being credited for it):

  • Allow filtering punks by characteristics, for example, hairless or hairy punks, Punks with or without glasses, etc...
  • Allow filtering for compound characteristics, so for example I could filter for "haired punks with glasses and trinkets"
  • Allow for all those filters above and sort by a price range

Those are initial ideas and when I take my vacations (IDK when it will be) from work I will DEFINITELY build that. I really believe that a better application and more functionalities can resurrect and push the punks to new highs, but for now, it is so dead it makes me wanna cry...
