It's a Cold Day Outside

Perfect day for some icy cold platinum photography. The light is perfect and the snow reflects off the shiny platinum surface.

I forgot how HEAVY this is, platinum is one of the few metals heavier than gold. It's also more durable and does not tarnish.

I bundled the chain and pendant in my hand to feel it's weight.

Pardon the dust, but here's the weight: 12.9 grams. This innocent looking chain and pendant is worth over $400 currently!

Because of Platinum's extremely high melt temperature, it's a difficult metal to forge and work with. It was found in silver mines and believed to be a "younger" form of silver - silver that had not matured yet.

Platinum used to be thrown away as a waste metal. Even though it's more rare than gold.
