Optimism #1 Airdrop Confirmed! Requirements, Tokenomics and How To Get Involved In Airdrop #2
After months of speculation, we have finally got confirmation that the $OP token is indeed becoming a reality. If you missed the news here is how you can check your eligibility and prepare for airdrop No 2 once it comes around.
Who Is Eligible?
Judging by the info provided on the governance page anyone that bridged ETH to Optimism, participated in givernance on Ethereum or even donated to Gitconin grants should get a piece of the pie.
In total there are roughly 250K eligible addresses and you can check if you are on that list by scrolling down to the bottom of the governance page and connecting your wallet or pasting your address.
If you are eligible your share will depend on the number of requirements that your wallet meets.
The requirements are a bit confusing but this list should give you all of the information you need.
According to the Optimism development team the airdrop will become claimable in Q2 but no specific date was shared.
Tokenomics
The $OP token will start with a token supply of 4.29B and continue inflating at a rate of roughly 2% per year. All details can be found on this page but here is a quick breakdown:
Total $OP tokens: 4.29B
Initial circulating supply: ~32.5%
Token allocation
$OP tokens will grant governance rights but the model is still a bit unclear. For now it is known that Optimism will utilize dual governance meaning that both the community and the core team will have unique voting rights to make decisions collectively. More on that can be found here.
What's Next?
Now that the first airdrop requirements are clear we know that more token drops will be coming in the future. If you are still not on Optimism I would highly recommend giving it a shot. You can use this guide to figure out how to bridge ETH to Optimism. It's cheap to send it from Matic and it will probably be worth your trouble in the coming months as more airdrops get announced.
