After about a month of waiting, I finally got my beta invite code for Skyweaver and while the gameplay and graphics are refreshing, the game is a bit grindy for my taste.

What is Skyweaver

If you are familiar with trading card games that is what you should be expecting from this one. Skyweaver combines Hearthstone and Legends of Runeterra buy using some-well known mechanics and giving them a slightly different dimension.

For example, many units will have passive abilities but once summoned they may also have a spell attached to them. This is something that I have seen a lot in Runeterra but it can sometimes be completely different.

Players are rewarded with base, silver, and gold cards where base cards are untradable but the rest of them can be sold and bought on the market. The game launched on Polygon but it still requires you to create an account because it uses a non-custodial wallet for some reason.

Gameplay and Graphics

There is a variety of game modes in this game which may seem like a lot but they aren't very different.

Ranked can be played with constructed decks or no decks at all. The discovery mode will pair you with another opponent that also has no deck and you will be battling with random cards every game.

The ranked ladder is also divided into construction and discovery so once you climb one ladder you will have to do it all over again if you want max season rewards.

Conquest also has constructed and discovery modes but to play this one you will either need to pay $1.5 USDC or sacrifice one silver card for an entry ticket. Winning one game in conquest will reward you with one silver card, 2 wins award 2 silver cards while 3 wins will give you one silver and one gold card.

Cards that can be won in Conquest will be somewhat unique because this is the only time they will be available for minting.

The rest of the game modes seem self-explanatory.

Graphics are nice and the gameplay aspect is nowhere near as clunky as in Gods Unchained. The game can be played in your browser with no issues at all but downloading it to your PC or Phone is also an option. The animations aren't AAA quality but the overall game design does stand out when compared to other blockchain games. The game simply feels like it has nothing to do with crypto.

Economy

There is no game token for now but money is flowing in and out of the game as we speak. Entering the Conquest mode is available through USDC payments and all cards that you win can be sold on the open market in a matter of seconds.

Silver cards are selling for about $1.5 meaning that you only need 1 win in conquest mode to get your "investment" back. Gold cards can be sold anywhere between $15 and $40 right now. The real question here is does it pay to play?

Climbing the ladder is very simple. Win a game and gain 2 points. For the lower ranks, you will need 20 points per rank but as you get higher that number increases. If you start at the very bottom getting to the big leagues may take a few days but if you can keep at it consistently you should end up with at least 20 silver and a few gold cards at the end of the season.

For refference, it took me 43 matches to get to Scholar and I need to climb three more ranks in about 3 days if I want to get to Grandweaver.

It is definitely not much in USD value but I can see this game going up in popularity so it may be smart to stack up on cards while they are cheap and "easy" to get for free.

Conclusion

If you liked HS or Runeterra you will find a soft spot for Skyweaver. I personally don't like the non-custodial wallet but that's just me. Everything else about the game is amazing and I can say that I didn't expect it to be this good. There is still a lot of stuff that needs to be worked on but I'm sure they will get there.

Giveaway

I have one more invite code to give away so if anyone is interested please let me know in the comments below. I will be picking one person randomly on Monday so you have until then to enter by leaving a comment below and maybe explaining why you should win it. This is not mandatory of coruse.

Good luck!
