"A Windfall of Fortune: How I Unexpectedly Came Into a Massive Amount of Money."
I was lounging on my bed, scrolling through my phone, when I opened my Hive account and wallet to see if there was anything to claim. I opened it, expecting to see my usual balance, but instead, I was surprised to find that a large sum of money had been deposited into my account. I was stunned, and couldn't believe my eyes.
I thought at first that it was just my imagination, but after taking a second to confirm it, I couldn't help but scream my heart out with excitement.
Last August, my brother-in-law introduced me to the job of a news editor. At that time, I was also active on Hive and another crypto platform which is known as Gfam where I was earning a side income.
The earnings from both places weren't enough to cover my bills. I had a loan that was overdue to be paid and was already receiving embarrassing calls from loan sharks.
Despite the fact that I tried to explain certain situations to them and reassure them that they would get their money soon, the embarrassing calls still continued.
Additionally, I had to take care of my son's school fees and stationery fees as his school's resumption date was rapidly approaching. His dad had already sent me money for this purpose earlier, but something came up and I used that money. I was so confident that I would recover the money before resumption day.
The PC I got on credit at that time was also being paid off in installments. At the time, I needed it in order to work on the news site I was employed by. Without a PC, I would be unable to get started. In addition to these things that seemed like personal issues I had to pay for, I also had promised to give money to my cousin. However, I was unable to fulfill my promise.
There were a lot of responsibilities I had to take care of, including food, home utilities, and more. I understand that I couldn't call them a challenge because they are part of life. However, I would consider my financial instability a challenge. Before I moved into my rental apartment, I worked at a gym as a gym instructor. I had the opportunity to gain a lot of knowledge from the CEO not only regarding work.
One of the things I learned from that CEO was to write down my desires even if I had no idea how I was going to get them fulfilled. I kept a journal of my life, and I created a list of my wants, which were actually needs. I wrote on the list that I needed a black bag, a black pencil skirt, black shoes, and sandals. On my list, I also mentioned that I wanted to eat whole chicken and shawarma. My wants are also needs, so I categorize them accordingly.
I wrote in my journal on the 23rd of August, 2022, that I was spending more than I was earning and that it was driving me crazy. I also mentioned that the hope I had was that I had a job to generate some stable cash flow.
In my journal book on the 15th of September, 2022, I wrote with a red pen. Usually, writing with a red pen means something bad has happened. However, I explained in my journal that I was writing with a red pen because I couldn't find any other pen at that time, and what I wrote was positive news.
During the month of March, I received a delegation from someone who used the username @gcalex on Hive. It was the first surprise for me to find a delegation of 5000 HP in my Hive account the day that I submitted my write-up about my newbie initiative goals in the hive learners community.
Despite not knowing the person, he/she was so kind to delegate such huge amounts of HP to my account in order to help me grow it. I was so excited when I saw the delegation that I couldn't keep my excitement to myself. Thank goodness I managed to achieve most of my goals after the newbie initiative program.
I wrote the journal that day because of the gift I received again from Gcalex. It came as a huge surprise, as I had not expected it at all. I woke up early that morning, picked up my phone as usual, opened Peakd in my browser, and responded to the notifications I had received. I opened my wallet to see if I had anything to claim before closing the browser, and I saw 500 Hive sitting pretty in my wallet.
My first thought was that I was not seeing it correctly, or maybe it was a glitch, so I refreshed the browser to make sure. It was about past 6 AM when everyone came into my room and wondered what had happened. After refreshing the browser, the 500 Hive was still sitting pretty there. I screamed in excitement at the top of my lungs. At first, they thought something bad had happened but then saw me dancing and asked me what had happened.
In Nigeria's currency, that amount of Hive was about N200,000. I am not sure how much it was in USD. Once I felt a bit calmer after all that excitement, I went back to my journal and wrote down how I would spend the money to ensure that it would be used appropriately.
It was also the first time in my life that I had such a large amount of money for myself. To begin with, I sold 300 hives, then I planned to power up 100 hives and save the rest.
I used the 300 Hive to balance up my PC installment payments, pay my church tithes, pay my son's school fees and stationery fees, repay the loan I had taken out, settle my creditors' bills, and fulfill my promise to my cousin.
Besides that, I also sent part of the money to my parents and siblings and used the rest to buy myself and my son some items. Most of the things I bought for myself were what I had written on my wish list that was a necessity at the time.
The surprise gift from @gcalex came in at the right time. I didn't ask for it, but I am really impressed with how thoughtful and nice that person was.
It was unclear what I did at that time to deserve the gift. Even without knowing why I deserved it, I was grateful to receive such a generous gift from that person. Even though I was uncertain why I was rewarded, I felt touched by the kindness of the gesture and was thankful for the unexpected gift.
Despite the fact that I needed something like that, I only discussed my difficulties with my journal and God. Receiving the gift made me feel seen and appreciated, even though I had not verbally communicated my struggles to anyone. It was a powerful reminder that I am loved and cared for even when I am not aware of it.
A surprising blessing came to me during that time, and I will never forget it. Despite the challenges, this unexpected gift showed me that there are people in my life that love and support me unconditionally.
