Splinterlands: Rental Bot Versus Renting Cards

One of the things that I haven't paid attention to much is the rental market prices of cards that I use during my normal fights. There is an entire economy around people renting out cards and earning throughout the season using these cards. I have never really focused on that because I prefer to own my cards and use them to fight in the ranked battles.

Weekly Battle Challenges

I usually participate in the Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge and I generally don't have to rent or buy out a card very often. However, it was Legionnaire Alvar as the card of the week and I never fixed up the SplinterRents bot to get back this card. Since the card was rented out, I couldn't just recall the card for the challenge as it wouldn't be available to me. So I just choose to rent out this card because I owned this card already. It came to a surprise to see that the card was rented out for more than what I would pay for renting it myself.

Example: Grum Fireblade

Let's check how much he costs to rent out right now in the market and it is 0.47 DEC per day. However, if you look at how much I am renting out the same 1 BCX Grum, I am renting it out for 5 DEC per day. So if I were to rent out the other Grum that I had for the same 5 DEC per day, I would have earned 10x what it cost me to rent it from the market. Even if we discount those two really cheap Grums on the rental market, it's still 1.4 DEC per day versus the 5 DEC that I am renting out Grum for.

Example: Legionnaire Alvar

There are a lot of level 2 cards out there for rent but the cheapest one for rent at level 1 and 1 BCX is 2.89 DEC per day. However, my card is rented out for 10.319 DEC right now. The discrepancies for the cards just seem to be quite large and it might be more worthwhile for me to rent them out and then rent out the ones that I want at a lower price.

Not for all cards work for this strategy

While there are some select examples that I have above, there are also cards that are not doing so well such as Carnage Titan where I am renting it out for less than the minimum value on the rental market. So this strategy is not for all cards and anyone using it might have to do some work to figure out which cards work better for this strategy. I leave the prices of my cards up to the rental bot and they tend to do a good job of renting out the cards at a decent price.

Conclusion

It makes me wonder which cards are good for this or not. Both Grum and Legionnaire Alvar are fairly good tanks with the void armor ability but Carnage Titan is also another good card that fails to work with this strategy. So it makes me wonder sometimes how the rental markets work and it is very well possible to more of a profit by figuring out what you can rent out and get back cheaper. I haven't explored this fully but it's
