Here's a link for this week's battle

Here's the ruleset

The first actionable rule here is the Earthquake ruleset. I like to use Brighton Bloom in the earthquake ruleset quite often.

Lineup:

Summoner: Obsidian

Obsidian Buffs my magic attacks. I felt fairly comfortable using Obsidian in the Earthquake ruleset because there are some great flying monsters in the earth splinter. I also love to use Mylor from the earth splinter but I was planning to use Venari Knifer for the weekly battle challenge and the thorns would have been redundant.

Tank: Venari Knifer

In addition to the thorns ability which is superb fro a tank, the Venari Knifer has a decent 2 melee damage and I usually forget about the speed until my opponent uses one and I miss.

1st position: Pelacor Mercenary

The Mercenary makes for a solid tank in it's own right, but I most often use it in reserve behind another tank during the Earthquake ruleset as the Earthquake damage frequently grinds down the tank for each team.

2nd position: Regal Peryton

This is another great flying monster from the earth splinter and it benefits handily from Obsidian.

3rd position: Creeping Ooze

The Creeping Ooze will die to Earthquake damage, but slows my opponent's monsters for the first round.

4th and 5th position: Fiend and Chicken

These will also die to Earthquake damage but they have potential to pick up hits from monsters with opportunity if there are any.

Did my strategy work?

Not at all. I was reaching outside my comfort zone to use the Venari Knifer and I was far outclassed by my opponent's team. You generally think of Brighton Bloom for flying, but Kelya gives armor which is enough for at least 1 extra turn. They also had enough self healing on their team to cover the life lost to Earthquake damage.

Do I like Venari Knifer?

A little. The Venari Knifer would have a lot more appeal if there weren't already a summoner that gives the whole earth splinter thorns. You can see the similarity to Cursed Windeku which is an outstanding card and the de facto tank of choice in the death splinter.

What will I try differently next time?

After taking some time to look at this ruleset, I think that my best lineup would be Brighton Bloom at Summoner and Wave Brood at tank with Merdaali Guardian, Crustacean King and Deeplurker on the back line.

Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows. I'll see you in the game.
