There has certainly been a buzz around Leofinance lately. The new UI has launched, and so far the role-out has been a great success. This has definitely been the smoothest launch day I can recall for any Leo launch. Full credit to the Leofinance team that have been working on this for a while.

So, here are my thought on the new UI so far.

The good:

  • First impression of the new post screen for creating a long form post is good. I like the side by side preview, as a better option than typing out the post and then clicking to see a preview. Obviously using desktop here, but I prefer the layout of this new screen compared to the old one.

  • The home tab displaying threads as the default is an obvious sign that the Leofinance team is pivoting the focus from the traditional long form, finance related content, to a much broader, microblogging focus. I like that this view is new, yet familiar as it feels a lot like Twitter - which is obviously the plan. As more features role out over the coming weeks, this view will continue to improve with added features.

  • The pivot is a good thing. The Leofinance niche of long form finance content was good. But after a period of time it has proven to have not captured the imagination beyond a loyal core base of users. Onboarding at times felt like mission impossible, and growth has stagnated. A broader focus, with a twitter style microblogging priority opens up the community for a much larger target market, and the barriers to entry around high quality finance content are removed. Anyone can drop a thread, on any topic and get started in the Leo community.

  • Lots more to come - this initial launch has many features to be added in, which will come over the next weeks. It is an alpha, and will improve massively from here. The next few weeks are going to be fun, as we wait for all the add-on's. I am most looking forward to more customization options.

  • I love the new Notifications page, and being able to up-vote directly in notifications is awesome.

What I don't like:

Firstly, this is feedback, not criticism...

  • No following tab. I was looking around to see recent posts from those I follow, and couldn't find it anywhere - had to swap back to the old UI for a bit. I guess this will come in time. Would personally like a two column following screen, with threads on one side, and traditional long blogs on the other.

  • Threads are great, but finding the long form posts in general was tough. I guess getting used to the new UI, having gotten so used to the last one with its curated section, then feeds of trending and recent. I hope a tab will remain where we can have this type of view still - I get the thread focus, but hope the long blog posts don't disappear too much.

  • Dim mode - Light mode is not nice, dark mode is too dark, I liked the dim mode option on the old UI and miss it already. Wen Dim mode?

  • A small one - when I added in the above screenshot, while creating this post, the preview panel shrunk much smaller. I guess the link to the image had to fit on one line. A minor thing for sure.

  • I guess communities will role out on the new UI in coming updates. I hope each community will have both a thread feed (drawn from the hashtags) and a feed of long form posts.

  • The wordcount on the post editor is gone - I liked that (although I am not really sure why I miss it).

  • Other stuff I'd like to see will probably be in future updates.

Edit

I just want to add in that the images I used in this post (which I posted from the new UI) didn't appear, but are there in the old UI.

Here are both links for comparison:

Overall, I am very impressed by the smooth role out, and thread focus of the new UI. I just hope that the traditional long form posts have a place and remain an important part of Leofinance.

Don't forget, today is LPUD (Leo Power Up Day). t's a great time to power up some LEO, and get in the running for some cool prizes. you can see this post from the @leogrowth account for all the details and Leo Power delegations on offer.

As for me, next month will be when I restart powering up LEO. It has been a focus for me recently to build my staked SPS, and I don't have funds right now to buy more LEO to power up. Getting back to actively posting and participating is my first goal, and then LPUD's and building on my current 25 K LEO power will restart next month.

Congrats once again to the Leo team on a successful release of the alpha version of the new UI.

Have a great LPUD day everyone (whatever is left of it depending on your time zone)

Cheers,

JK,
