Success in Life is a matter of balance in the four essential elements of health.

Many people view success in life using only one measuring tool; fame, wealth, the number of friends or the size of a bank account. I think it’s a good start to know about those tools, but I think there are four pillars of good health which includes Financial Success, but you must be balanced in life to be healthy. This balance means you must be physically fit, mentally fit, spiritually fit and financially fit.

Physical Fitness

I believe that a strong healthy mind supports a strong and healthy mind. I think best when I am well rested, I process information faster and I find my decisions on trading to be more profitable when they were made when I was well rested and in good physical condition. Some of my patients work hard, but sleep poorly and eat poorly, then exercise to much or to little. I think life is about balance; adequate sleep, a healthy diet, regular moderate exercise and working hard at a job you enjoy are all part of a balanced life.

Mental Fitness

I find it’s common for people to transiently be anxious, angry, sad, mad, depressed, distrustful, withdrawn or to otherwise have emotional responses to people, things and incidents in life. I remind my patients that emotions are normal. Acknowledge them, feel them, talk about them, work through your feelings and emotions and cycle through them and move on to other emotions. Don’t suppress them, don’t dwell on them for extended periods of time. It’s okay to be human, humans have emotions, acknowledge them, talk about them and move on to the next emotion and the rest of your life. Your ability to feel, express and process emotions in a healthy manner will determine your mental fitness or illness.

Spiritual Fitness

I often am asked by patient’s about God. I quickly remind them that as a medical doctor I have no particular expertise in this matter. I tell them that many humans seem to ask what is their significance in the universe, what is their purpose, where will they go when they die, will they simply cease to exist or continue as something higher and better then they are on earth. We all have to balance out our family and cultural beliefs to form our own spiritual beliefs and this balance creates our spiritual fitness.

Financial Fitness

We all seek financial fitness, or financial independence and we have all read many books on this subject, which perhaps can distilled down to a balance sheet of assets and liabilities, where assets either grow in value, produce value or both. While liabilities consume assets and produce no value. I think the path to financial fitness begins with this simple analysis of what are your assets and what are your liabilities, followed by a carefully planned process of reducing the number of items in the liabilities column, while increasing the number of items in the assets column.

Summary

These are the four pillars of a happy life, successful life and a balanced life. I hope you found it valuable.
