About Me

My name is John Tamny.

I serve as vice president at FreedomWorks, and director of its Center for Economic Freedom.

I am also editor of RealClearMarkets, and senior economic adviser to mutual fund firm Applied Finance Group.

I love to write, which is one of the reasons I am so excited to be joining Hive.

How I Found Out about Hive

Two days ago, I had the privilege of speaking to the students of the Free Enterprise Society at Oklahoma State University.

I was there in Stillwater at the invitation of Professor Steve Trost (@trostparadox).

Over dinner, before my talk, Professor Trost explained to me the decentralized nature of Hive, how that decentralized ethos was originally embodied in the Steem blockchain, and how the ‘decentralized community’ that originally built Steem overcame a hostile takeover attempt, by re-birthing their vision of a truly decentralized ecosystem as the Hive blockchain.

@trostparadox explained to me how Hive content-posting works, in terms of authors and curators earning cryptocurrency rewards for their efforts; and he offered to take me through the process of creating and maintaining a Hive account and getting my first several posts formatted and published.

@trostparadox described Hive as:

  • a fully-functioning engine of decentralization, that will organically scale itself up to meet demand, upon which others can immediately start building fully independent applications and communities, and in so doing * continuously add value to society, creating individual and societal wealth.

He also described the global nature of the Hive community and how people in places like Venezuela are able to make a living by creating and posting valuable content.

A core aspect of my writing involves the power of the individual, and how myriads of individuals, all working independently in accordance with their individual talents and abilities, create the wealth in society that lifts people out of poverty, continuously ushering society (and the individuals it comprises) to greater heights and greater prosperity.

About My Writing

Fallacy relentlessly stalks economic thought processes on the left and the right (check out my book They’re Both Wrong).

My posts will aim to shine light on the confusion that persists with subjects including, but not limited to:

  • money,
  • government spending,
  • taxation,
  • trade,
  • inequality,
  • immigration,
  • China, and most crucial of all right now, the coronavirus and the tragic responses of politicians to it.

The political panic over the latter amounts to the most tragic human rights disaster of the 21st century, and it’s chronicled in my new book (just released yesterday), When Politicians Panicked.

*You won’t always agree with me, but you’ll always learn something new as you see things in a new way.

I am looking forward to our upcoming journeys together!
