It's hard to believe, but December has come to an end, and so has 2022. This also means that it is once again my favorite time of the month. The time when I calculate my crypto earnings for the entire month. If you are new, this is an ongoing monthly series I write where I track my progress towards hopefully reaching financial freedom. I have two main purposes for writing these articles. The first is that tracking and writing them helps to see my own progress. Which helps to keep me motivated along this journey. The second purpose is that I hope someone reading this will become motivated to begin their own journey toward reaching financial freedom. If I can do it, then anyone can.

December was an interesting month. There were many disappointments, but also signs of great things to come. The first disappointment was that crypto prices continued to dip and go sideways. While these are the best times to buy, they are also the most boring. Since I use the US dollar as my unit of account for my earnings, that also means that my earnings are less than what they would be if we were in the bull market. The second disappointment is that one of the methods that I used to earn crypto has come to an end. I am referring to Read.cash. I had been using this blogging service for a few years now. I had a very interesting experience while using it over the years. When I first began it was a service would I usually earned nothing and almost quit posting there entirely. But then my luck changed, and for over a year it was one of my biggest and most consistent earners. But since a large majority of the crypto on the service was donated by one person, I knew it wouldn't last forever. I was just enjoying it while the good times lasted. Unfortunately, that main crypto contributor has stopped his donations and that means nearly all tipping on the website has come to an end. Which means that I will no longer be using the service. It was good while it lasted.

While those were two disappointments, there was a bright spot for me as well. My writing on Medium continued to soar in popularity, and so did my earnings. In just a few months Medium has become my biggest earner by far. By more than 10x, and then is during the bear market when there isn't as much interest in reading about crypto. I'm excited to see what kind of potential this has to grow even more in the future.

In December my earnings consisted of blogging about crypto and also staking. Since the whole FTX situation happened, I have completely stopped lending out crypto and wouldn't recommend anyone else to do it until the market settles down. Not even on some of the most trusted exchanges. Remember that at one point, FTX was one of the most trusted services of all. Currently, it doesn't make sense to be picking up pennies in front of a possible freight train. Let's just wait out the storm.

Without further delays, let's look at my performance during the month of December.

Cryptocurrency Blogging

Publish0x

As always, Publish remained my most consistent earner. It has in my opinion one of the best communities in crypto with real interactions and where people are excited to learn and share. As we are currently in the middle of a bear cycle, I have begun to increase the number of articles that I'm writing each week in hopes of accumulating more.

As of writing this article I have now reached 6,955 followers on Publish0x. Thank you all for your support and for reading my articles. I'm gradually inching closer to my next goal of reaching 7,000 followers. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my articles and follow my blog.

Publish0x Total = $52.36

Read.cash Since the main source of tipping on Read.cash has come to an end, that means this will be the last month it's included in my earnings report. It was good while it lasted.

Read.cash Total = $8.48

Hive / LeoFinance My earnings on HIVE saw a slight recovery during December. I attribute this to my article topics being more crypto-based instead of being Bitcoin-based. Which seem to perform better there.

Hive = $51.70 LeoFinance = $7.17

Combined Total = $58.87

Substack
Since I have begun using Substack I have seen slow and steady growth. With that said, I have never seen the great numbers that I tend to see on my other platforms. And gaining paid members is a task that I haven't been successful at yet. I'm beginning to lose hope in the platform and may quit using it in the future.

Substack Total = $0

Medium

I was blown away by the success that I had on Medium during the month. After just 3 months of use, (2 of them being paid), Medium has become my largest earner and it isn't even close. I'm really excited to see how I will perform here in 2023.

Medium Total = $630

Freelance Writing

Unfortunately, there were no freelance writing opportunities this month. Fewer crypto companies are wanting to extend expenses during the coldest points in the bear market. I expect more opportunities will come my way once the market begins to recover.

Freelance Writing Total = $0

Cryptocurrency Blogging Total = $749.71

Crypto Staking

Kraken

0.017235 ETH = $20.682

I continue to stake a portion of my Ethereum on Kraken to earn a weekly interest rate. Since the ETH merge, the interest I have been earnings has slightly increased. My ETH is currently locked into the protocol until a future ETH protocol upgrade is released. I have had no complaints about using Kraken to stake ETH. With that said, they do charge 15%. This means that when my ETH is finally unlocked, I will be shopping around for better options.

Kraken Total = $18.17

Internet Computer (ICP)

Staking ICP is a new addition to my crypto earning strategy. For those of you who don't know, recently I have become very interested in ICP again and am excited about the potential this project has. Staking with ICP is a little different than with other chains. You must lock up your ICP on the NNS Dao and then earn by voting on proposals. It's called active staking. There is a catch. You must lock up your ICP for an extended period of time in order to participate and also earn. I decided to lock mine up for 2 years, and am continuing to add to my stack. Depending on how long you lock your ICP for, the interest rate you can early will vary. I'm earning just under 20%. ICP is something that I consider to be a very long-term investment and therefore have no issues locking up my coins. Especially to earn great passive interest. However, that is a decision that you will need to make for yourself.

ICP Total Earned = 1.86 ICP = $7.71

Crypto Lending & Staking Total = $25.88

Miscellaneous

Coinbase Earn

= 0

Coinbase Earn Total = 0

Airdrops

My SWEAT token airdrop continued to be gradually unlocked which I promptly sold off for more BTC. While it is free money and I can't complain, I am still disappointed with how quickly this coin has dropped in value.

SWEAT - $3 (unlocked)

Airdrops Total = $3

Miscellaneous Total = $3

Total November Earnings = $778.59

Overall, I'm very satisfied with how December turned out. Especially with the results I had at Medium. I'm interested if it can become a consistent earner, or if I was just lucky this month. It looks like we might be soon reaching the end of the bear market within the next few months and I'm doing my best to accumulate as much as I can before prices begin to recover.

How about you? What have you been doing to earn crypto income?
