Oshodi, Lagos Nigeria recently had a makeover and this is basically how it looks at the moment after about three years of ruins and construction. I have travelled far into the West and particularly I haven't seen such a flyover and a bridge being constructed in this manner and I needn't remind you that this is a multi-million naira project that took nearly two years to actually finish. I believe why this flyover was constructed in this manner was because there was a company that that transported materials at the edge of the road, so they do it using something like a tube built beside the flyover and then people can also pass through the flyover on foot.

This one however isn't meant for cars, it's purely pedestrian and a look at the pictures shoes another bridge that extends after the flyover I'm sure it only had a makeover and it wasn't rebuilt. Needless to say, the mode at which it was constructed is certainly beautiful. I actually do not know the company that erected this edifice but then it certainly must have been in liaison or at the behest of the Lagos state government. Oshodi of course is purely a commercialised place. Millions of transactions take place here everyday and many people from Lagos itself, Ogun state and other neighbouring state come here to actually trade, have their business and also their livelihood.

This place has always been busy. I remember coming here with my mom in 2004 and 2005 it was equally busy as well but not like the present, there's new influx of people due to the resent development. It was expensive in terms of residential aspect and it was the perfect breeding ground for hoodlums and thieves because it was a place where these thieves had their hideouts and commit crimes. But then Oshodi began to see a sizeable amount of change when governor Raji Fashola came into power, sacked the area hoodlums and started depopulating Oshodi and that was when it became a state project.

After it was of course repopulated, many people lost their livelihood and shops and stores were broken down and people had to migrate to other places. Millions of naira was no doubt lost but it was for the greater good. Oshodi had been under remodeling for two years now and this place was actually finished in 2019 and it looks even better and smarter and the economic value has of course. BRT lanes had been added to the roads and of course it still suffers from heavy traffic but then this is because of the increase in the population of people coming to do business.

From the top of the flyover you can see a sizeable population of the Oshodi metropolitan area and it's quite a surprise that despite the huge numbers of Corona cases always listed by the federal government, people still comes out in large numbers to buy and sell and trade and the commuters hardly even obey the social distancing rules for public transport owners. In general, this is the first time in two years that I'm coming here and it's totally different from the ruins and rods it use to be before it was fully finished.
