They manipulate people by cutting them off from alternative sources of information.

I think I can relate to this based on the fact that most communist countries are actually guilty of this. I think external source of information enlightens people the more and break that cycle, it's crazy how the aim towards Sophisticated democracy still choose to enslave people.
