Tis the month of haunting, set your Dapp on night mode if you dare.

“Black birds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

The Halloween posts continue this week of the creature that haunts the top of the Horror food chain. I got this awesome silver coin from Nyssacat 💋 last November and it rested in peace in my Gothic Treasure chest in wait for this Halloween’s posts. I couldn’t believe it when my bloodshot eyes beheld it. You see, I manage three lists, the forth being a phantom list, of silver I’d like to get in a non-committal sense.

  1. Bread and butter stacking silver list,
  2. Pricey but within my FUN Premium price range list,
  3. Steep Premium, once in a blue moon buy list, &
  4. “No hope in Hell” list, Dream on bat girl.

This is a coin that haunts my fourth category.

The Vampire

The original Vampire themed slipcover is a nice touch. The coin is housed in a shiny black acrylic clam shell case with a window top. The bezel holding the coin can stand as show above, a set of magnets are fixed on both the top and bottom of the shell providing a secure display. I don't know if this was meant to be also a Fridge magnet but the case does stick to my refrigerator securely.

Accompanying the coin is a basic Certificate of Authenticity listing the general facts of this coin, but nowhere is the mint named in it’s production or name of the Craftsman / artist. A little pet peeve of my inquiring mind, as this makes me go to the retailers like; Powercoins, First Coin Company, & Apmex for any further information. Nope, dead end. 💀

2014 $10 Republic of Palau, The Vampire

Reverse; Vampire, Castle Dracula, Full Moon, Bat

Text; THE VAMPIRE, MYTHICAL · CREATURES · COLLECTION, 2014

Diameter 50mm, Thickness 4.3mm

.999 Fine Silver, Weight 62.2g

Finish; Antiqued, Ultra High Relief

The Vampire is the second coin of the Republic of Pulau’s Mythical Creatures collection preceded by the 2013 Werewolf, followed by the 2015 Medusa Gorgona, then The Minotaur, and finally The Green Dragon. Why skip 2017 & 2018 years? And no 2020 or 2021 either? It’s a mystery.

What wasn’t a mystery is that the coin is a 2 Troy oz. size, ideal for high relief strikes. That, with the nosebleed issue price, I had high expectations.

This is the best I can get that my Samsung A8 can allow me.

The Close up.

I don’t think this picture can do any justice to the level of quality and detail of this strike apart from looking at the very coin in my hand. I’ll have to get better camera. The full matte and antiqued finished added to the challenge of this coin. The black marble inlay for the bat immediately catches the eye before the observer view the reverse, until the observer focuses on the fangs.

The original Bram Stoker portrayal of the recluse Count around a dark sensual figure, is that of more as an imposing man accustomed to his own authority.

...his strong facial features, “face is strong-very strong-quinine, with high bridge of the thin nose… the mouth … fixed and rather cruel looking with particularly sharp teeth.” ~ LIFE, Vampires p 28

Going through my mental file of actors that have played role of the dark Count, including Leslie Nielsen, the artist made the effort of creating a unique portrait faithful to Stoker’s Dracula. Does resemble a well known actor? Maybe a younger Christopher Walken?

2014 $10 Republic of Palau, The Vampire

Obverse; Republic of Palau Coat of Arms

Text; REPUBLIC OF PALAU, RAINBOW'S END, 10$

Mintage of 999

Edge; Reeded

Bram Stoker is the Victorian era writer who published Dracula in 1897 and was also the author to 16 other romantic action nonfiction publications. Neither of them accomplished any notoriety until Dracula seized the collective imagination of the public and started the genre of Horror literature.

The first printing was 3,000 books, since then the story has been published in 44 languages, his masterpiece of horror saw various adaptations in novels, theater, and film over the last 125 years. While many members of the Gothic subculture consider Stoker’s original work being the baseline classic to compare all other versions, it is no doubt that newer, modern, and contemporary interpretations continue to breathe life into this undead Classic ‘villain’.

Taking top spot as my favorite Vampire Silver!

Number Two

"It took me years to live down Dracula and convince the film producers that I would play almost any other type of role." ~ Bela Lugosi Original Post

Number Three

Number Four

BCB, Bay City Bullion’s 5 Troy Oz. Vampire Teeth.

A shiny huge set of pure silver Vampy dentures not meant to be put into anyone’s mouth but put simply on display and to say, “I have a friend that can fit this in his mouth.”

Original Post

Better cut things off here, I'm content watching this crazy collection grow over the years. Anne Rice's Character Lestat in, "Interview with a Vampire" knew what assets to keep in building his wealth over the centuries, gold & silver I'm sure played a role and not fiat currency.

Stacking like a smart Vampire for that big stormy day

The #piratesunday tag is the scurvy scheme of Captain @stokjockey for #silvergoldstackers pirates to proudly showcase their shiny booty and plunder for all to see. Landlubbers arrrh… welcomed to participate and be a Pirate at heart so open yer treasure chests an’ show us what booty yea got!
