Bravo, I plan my shopping in a similar vein. Except I do maintain an emergency 5 week Stockpile of canned and foods with manageable Best Before dates of foods my family is familiar with along side Long Termed freeze dried foods. I only pick up fresh stock only when on sale and rotate the oldest stock out. And, I grind and make my own coffee.

I live in an Earthquake zone and my local advisory recommends keeping a minimum 3 day supply in the event of an Earthquake. I consider that far too optimistic citing other recent genuine disaster responses.
