There are definitely some intricacies in this approach to a new trending algo. Gaming the system (as @abh12345 mentioned in a comment here) is definitely an issue.

Although, it is hard to do much worse than the current trending algorithm. I think Leo is decent in this regard but very far from where I'd like it to be.

Personally, I hope more people utilize the https://leofinance.io/curated page. I think this is underleveraged and I see some people just discovering this page after some time on the platform which is equally hilarious and eye opening.

I'll give some more thought to this idea of an engagmeent-based trending algorithm. I think we can implement something along these lines and perhaps stave off people gamifying it by implementing our new reputation system hand-in-hand with it.
