Before you doubt and crucify my title, look at it again. Then allow me to explain further in this post.

According to the Oxford dictionary, knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.

The above definition simply means that the information which we get or learn from a particular understanding of a subject, either by practice or theory. Knowledge applies to facts or ideas acquired by study, investigation, observation, or experience.

Now it is pertinent to know that there are two kinds of knowledge: General and Specialized.

When we aren't able to understand the difference between these two kinds of knowledge then we might have the knowledge but not profit from it.

Without deviating further let's get back to justifying my title.

Many of us growing up we're meant to believe that knowledge is power. Yes, one way or the other we've heard that statement. But would you believe me if I tell you that the above statement is nothing but a hogwash. It's totally a lie. It is wrong.

Knowledge isn't power. Let's break it down this way.

Imagine you have an idea or knowledge about something, maybe a business idea and it's all up in your head with no plans of working towards it. No plans of making use of that knowledge. At that point your knowledge is useless, with no power.

Knowledge without use isn't powerful. Knowledge is power only when it is properly organised and used to achieve a profitable end. That is why we have so many intelligent people yet in poverty.

When knowledge of something be it a business idea is put in practice, developed and materialised into something meaningful that is when knowledge is power.

"Knowledge is not power, it's only a potential power." Napoleon Hills.
