Clearing the Air After Openly Questioning Those in Power

I'm not on this network to kiss influential or wealthy peoples' asses, nor am I here to twist narratives or tales in the favour of my own self interest.

I'm here because I enjoy the social aspects of our community and find it fulfilling to build services and create new things, be it shitposts or HIVE use case applications. Besides the users within the community that obviously cannot be found elsewhere, the fact of the matter is I could be building on other crypto currency networks and likely be far better received, compensated and appreciated..

But I build on HIVE because I want the people here to end up prosperous and to have their dedication and usage of HIVE amount to some long lasting financial, social and/or emotional support for years to come. If I'm able to make an honest living doing this, then effectively the "dream job" folks talk about is real for me.

Surely some of you had noticed over the past little bit I've been extremely vocal not only within the user and dev community but also towards those wielding the largest stake in HIVE who ultimately control it. In no way, shape or form was it EVER in my best interest at future success or support dictated by these large stake holder accounts to brazenly question the motives of those making decisions.

Now most folks are pre-dispositioned to the "Occam's Razor" way of analyzing things and will take the situation strictly at face value, landing on the urge to tell me to "shut the fuck up, you're only upset because your funding was cut" and while that was the initial trigger that ultimately lead me to not only dig deeper into all of this, start collecting thoughts and concerns from within the dev and user community, raise my voice / be vocal and ultimately confront those behind the decision making that spawned my inquisition, but also start doing some math to calculate exactly how long and what sort of stake would be required to be able to counter the seemingly unquestionable decision making ability a few accounts possess.

During this time, save for one individual who I'll not mention due to not wanting to bring focus to their lap dog like behavior more than this sentence, not a single member of the HIVE community nor any developer who wasn't currently in a top 20 position moved to publicly mock me nor make some attempt to belittle me for expressing not only my concerns but the concerns of others who had privately contacted me expressing how they felt.

This served as an indicator to me that not only was it the correct thing to do, raising the concerns that is, but that it was something that absolutely needed to be done at any cost. As to exercise complete complacency or remain silent out of fear of consequence in this situation effectively would mean that the greater community would never even be heard feedback wise pertaining to the top tier decisions, save for some other absolutely disenchanted or insane individual deciding to throw themselves out of grace to convey what was the general community feeling.

When you have top tier decision makers and their entourage tossing around completely inaccurate comments like "you're a self appointed messenger" and "stop thinking you're a martyr" when all you're doing is expressing community concerns as well as your own, without them having any real god damn clue what the community beyond their gated community is actually expressing amongst themselves, but not voicing out of fear of reprisal or losing support, it not only serves to downplay the fact that a clear divide exists between the community and those with the stake based influence to effectively dictate all of our futures here.

This also provides what I consider a blatantly fucking obvious need for individuals like myself to not only stand up and express concerns on behalf of our community regardless of the cost to their own success here, but to also act as community messengers or "eyes on the streets" to these top tier individuals who may not realize that they're not privy to how the community feels in the slightest, due to the community being to scared to express the concerns themselves, regardless of how approachable or how friendly a top tier decision maker here may consider themselves.

Not everything I speculated on or initially thought true was accurate either and I admit while trying to complete the picture to determine motive and reason that I overlooked key things that would have made my understanding far more complete then it was at the time. Had been so busy coding stuff that I'd not been able to keep up with current projects and HF25 functions.

As one would expect, upon deciding the best course of action was to publicly address the issues, which again I will state, was not only the concerns of myself but an over majority percentile of the entire HIVE userbase were expressing, wasn't received well and was in fact met with aggression.

Some nasty things were said by those being questioned upon hearing some of the concerns, a touch of gaslighting and a quite underhanded inference that I'm mentally handicapped was deployed in an attempt to discredit the concerns being raised which frankly may have stemmed from the questioning of the motives within the top tier stake holders which I can understand some take personally..

And while I too was completely questioning this groups motives and actions never once did I go out of my way to throw a finger at anyone to single them out as a cause to all of this shit, even though doing so would have been completely within reason as not only was it impossible to deny but also wasn't any particular single person who decided this course of action, but rather a small handful of top tier stake holders that effectively have been in power basically since the start of the prior network due to them being grandfathered in from Dan Larimer's previous graphene based Bitshares project into top spots early on.

Those in power will likely continue to be in power via effectively having cornered majority HIVE influence for the duration of this networks existence unless a situation occurs they power down and redistribute their stake and therefore choke hold on network governance, in favour of stake going to the community through selling on the open market, or some absolute nutjob comes in and spends $5,000,000 on HIVE to power up to become king of the castle, neither of which I can honestly put any realistic expectation of occurring.

Admittedly I wasn't lenient on my speculations and sharing of potential worse case scenarios or questioning of core motives behind actions either, which in part may have been part of the cause those in question responded to me in an aggressive or callous nature when at the time I was being completely civil.

Generally those in positions of power.. be it those capable of either single handedly or as a small elite group making the decisions for a far greater number of people existing in classes or user tiers below them rarely if ever have a positive response when being questioned on their motives, decisions and actions, and while I went into this hot headed from it's effect on my own livelihood and probably without all the info relating to why it was done coupled with a less than complete understanding what work was being done by the whole collective developer group as a whole..

This lead into what I consider a bit of a fucking disaster, it feels shitty to get called retarded by people you admire and respect, but given the way I approached the situation and the fact I'd been adamant that it was a possibility this ruling high stake wielding group of might very well be throwing us under the bus to further their own interests or finances... I get it.

However, the entire ordeal was something I would gladly do again if the situation arose where that sort of response was not only well within the right of anyone concerned, but also the right thing to do for the community. At the end of the day I do not give a fuck who anyone is or thinks they are, what sort of influence or wealth or power or backing they possess. If I or someone else who is concerned about something that has the potential to effect our entire community raises an issue that is legitimate, then it should be brought to attention and dealt with, and will be, regardless of how it effects the view of those able to dictate my success here on HIVE. As a voice within our community, I will gladly do so.

Users shouldn't be afraid to question those in power - or anyone for that matter. The community shouldn't bite their tongue or have to whisper amongst themselves nor be afraid to express concerns either directly to those responsible for them publicly or to question any actions or decisions they view as detrimental or malicious to our community. However that isn't how it seems to be here on HIVE sadly at times.. When you take into consideration that the given majority of the human population almost always act out of self interest, and generally do not publicly speak out about things that concern them going on out of fear of reprisal from those with the power to punish them or dictate their success, even when things that the majority disagree with are forced upon the community on a whim by those able to so, we have a god damn problem here.

I don't hold any bad blood for the nasty shit that was said by anyone during all this, nor do I think lesser of the individuals who went out of their way to try and make me look like a fucking idiot for voicing the concerns of our community. Everyone is entitled to react as they do or have, and put in the same situation I'd likely responded the same, if some perceived personal attack on my character was detected, regardless of that being the intent of the concerned voice or not. In fact I view this as an opportunity for these individuals to earn more of, not only mine, but the whole HIVE communities trust and respect, as their decisions and actions are now more than ever being closely scrutinized, as anyone in a position of power should be.

A telling sign after all this dust settles will be if we see long term personal grudges held or if the situation is taken for what it was, a bit of a crapshoot, concern and misunderstanding, rather than what it appeared to be initially responded to as, as if some personal attack on a persons moral fiber was being conducted. End of the day we're all on the same team provided our intentions are that of making HIVE better overall.

I apologize to those who I've either offended through trying to get this issue dealt with or took what was said on and off chain as me shaming them or what have you. To those who were crass or abusive towards me during all of this or those who responded in less than civil ways to at the end of the day merely mounted to justified concerns from within the community and myself, You are forgiven. If you choose to hold a grudge, that is your choice and a shame really.

There are still some things that I personally would like to see changed around here, and I'll keep working on projects for the greater community and speaking up about concerning things until I'm content with how things are running, but know that none of this was "personal" nor intended to bring into question your dedication or morality, but rather was an exercise of politics within the psuedo-society we all inhabit that runs on a blockchain known as HIVE.
