NFTs don't hold value - Splinterlands Giveaway #43
Hello fellow Hivians!
Just yesterday Crypto entrepreneur and enthusiast Sina Estavi opened their NFT of Jack Dorsey's first tweet (originally purchased for $2.9M) for bid listed at $48M. After the allotted time the highest bid was only a mere $280. Very clearly an NFT of a tweet has no real use case and the value is simply only there because of hype and collector desire. I was wondering when this type of thing might start happening to the higher profile NFTs out there (Bored Apes, etc).
Many of us in the Hive community and the greater crypto community are involved in NFTs (Splinterlands included) and a large majority of them imo will ultimately follow the same type of path, eventually someone is going to be holding the bag. That isn't to say an NFT without a use case is innately bad. Sometimes you just like something and that alone gives it value to you. I just warn you that you should be buying these NFTs going into it with the understanding that they can, and many likely will, be worthless to others and you won't be able to resell them.
