Welcome back to Crypto Noobs!

It's the most popular crypto educational series on Hive! Not really, but we like to have fun here. I'm just a regular dude on the internet that's obsessed with crypto and I like to teach people how to do shit with it. In the last episode, I broke down how to buy CUB without leaving Metamask. Today, I'm going to show you how to mint your very first NFT on Opensea without spending a cent on gas fees!

How to Mint on Opensea Using Polygon

So you've been thinking about creating an NFT collection to try your hand at selling digital art. Maybe you're an artist or a musician looking to take the sale of your assets into your own hands without having to pay for a service or worry about logistics. NFTs unlock a world of possibilities for a lot of people and businesses. You might have heard about people spending large amounts of ETH just to mint NFTs, hell you may have done it yourself. I've spend my fair share of ETH on NFT gas fees and they are nasty. The good thing is, we can still take advantage of the Ethereum blockchain by using layer 2 Polygon. Opensea supports Polygon NFTs with gas free transactions so even if you have no MATIC in your wallet, you can still mint your NFTs! Here's how you do it.

First, head to OpenSea and connect your wallet. If your wallet has not been configured to connect to Polygon, go here and follow the steps first.

Once your wallet is connected to OpenSea, you can either jump right into creating your first NFT or you can create a Collection if you're planning on creating multiple NFTs for a collection. For the purpose of this guide, we're just going to create an individual NFT with no collection. Click on "Create".

Once you click Create, you're taken to the very simple to use NFT creator built right into OpenSea. Now you need to add your media. Whether it be a JPG, a GIF, or even an MP4 file... Almost anything can be an NFT. Click on the picture image and upload your media. Next, you need to name the NFT and you also have the option to link to an external website.

I'm minting an NFT of this graphic I created for a post a month or so ago.

After that, you need to add a description. This is what people will be able to see on the NFT listing. You also have the option to add it to a collection if you created one. For this example, we did not create a collection.

Moving on, you have the option to add different traits, levels, and stats to the NFT. For example if you wanted to add a Rarity trait, you can do that under properties. There's tons of customizable options here. Don't forget to set the supply for the NFT. That means how many will be minted.

You can even add unlockable content for owners of the NFT. This is a really cool feature that you may want to take advantage of in the future.

Next, we need to select the Polygon blockchain so we don't have to pay for the gas fee using our kidneys.

Once you've done that, click Create. After a few seconds you'll get a confirmation that your NFT has been minted. Bam!

Now you can see your NFT and you can list it for sale!

Click Sell at the top and you can set the price in ETH.

Sign with Metamask and you're done!

Now your NFT is available for sale and you've spent no money. Congrats!

You're well on your way to becoming a famous NFT artist now. I'll leave you to it. If for some reason you want one of these you can check them out for yourself here. I don't recommend buying one at all. Congrats on minting your first NFT! Make sure to follow me for more guides and things in the future! Check out my list of useful links below as well!
